Hi Ladies
My daughter will be 2 in April. I would like to put her in some kind of dance class over the summer. 1-2 days a week, casual, and fun. The park district starts at three years old.
Anyone find a school that takes them at two? Nothing expensive...fun!
Hopefully in the Portage Park/Jefferson Park area or not too far out
Thank You

You need to look for actual dance schools... We go to Dance Infusion in Bridgeport (too far for you, I'm sure). They have a class for 2 year olds. (And it is only $21 a month!) From what I remember when I was looking, and when I was a kid, dance schools tend to take the summer off, though, so you might need to think about waiting til fall.

We live in the Old Irving Park neighborhood and I have noticed two dance places in the neighborhood that I intend to look into this spring for our 2 year old daughter. ARCC Ballet 4318 W Irving Park Rd www.arccballet.com and the other is Kids Dance 4100 N. Pulaski. Would love to hear your thoughts on both!

As a preschool dance instructor, I will tell you that most places do not start classes until age 3. Even then, classes are very short and very creative-movement oriented. I find its sort of like herding cats! Some places might do a mommy-and-me idea or more movement and music. Try places like Gymboree, My Gym, the Little Gym, and Old Town School of Folk Music. Or park districts might have more gymnastics-oriented classes (which may incorporate movement, music, prop work, etc) which can tide your daughter over until she's ready for class on her own (fall of 2010).

Call your local park district to verify the age requirement. When my daughter was 2 we took a mommy/tot ballet class thru C. Park District. It was cheap, and tons of fun. Nothing like dancing around with a bunch of 2 year olds in pink tutus!

I'm not sure exactly how hard core of a dance class you are looking for, but Avondale Park offers a "Pre-Ballet/Creative Movement" class for 18-36 month olds. My sitter takes my son to it so I can't vouch myself for the class but my son really enjoys it!
