G.W.
Both are great cities but being from DFW, I can certainly sing its praises! Just beware, if you are planning a summer trip, be prepared for a very very toasty trip. Our summer time temps can be pretty stinkin' hot! :-)
Which is more kid friendly for a 8, 5 and 1 year old? We are trying to plan a vacation and found good hotel deals at both locations. Both are about equal distance from where we live.

These are both very different places and both nice.
For starters, where is the location of the hotel in the Dallas area? That means a lot as far as travel time to specific areas to visit, etc.
I am partial to Dallas because I live in the area. There are tons of things to do from visiting historic events like the 6th Floor to the art museums, parks, Science Place, Six Flags, Rangers, Fort Worth Stockyards, etc. Great Wolf Lodge is in Grapevine area and it is a popular place for families. The shopping is fantastic here !!! We have some wonderful restaurants as well.
I know that Nashville is a nice place. I am not familiar with everything they have to offer. We are so anti country music in my family, it is just a place we would not go.
If you choose Dallas, feel free to PM me and I will let you know what is going on during the time you are to be here.
Best wishes.
honest, honest answer: I would avoid Dallas because of the heat. I would do Nashville only if I was sure I could fill in the time with fun things for the kids.
& now for the rest of my answer: since you're in Topeka, I would do St Louis - 1st choice (an outstanding Zoo & City Museum, 6 Flags, & 50 million other things to do). I would also consider Colorado & the Rockies - so many choices! & my all-time favorite: Gatlingburg. It is amazing. Dollywood is in nearby Pigeon Forge, too. :)
I would do Nashville. Beautiful there and lively. Plenty to do. The whole area is just gorgeous.
I live in Nashville and can offer some suggestions... When are you planning your visit, the weather here can get pretty muggy. What interests your kids? The zoo is nice, there's the opry, a lot of touristy things to do downtown, the Parthenon is really interesting if you like Greek mythology.... Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
