Need suggestion for fun entertainment in Dallas weekend of July 22nd
targetting a 2, 4, and 89 year old. Priorities are: staying in the cool
indoors, knock-your-socks-off interesting, within 30 miles from
Northpark Shopping Mall (Central and Park Lane). Want any comments
or recommendations on Magic Time Machine Restaurant, Dream Cafe,
Downtown Aquarium, Fair Park Aquarium. Please, Dallasonians,
tell us your best-kept secrets.

So What Happened?

We went to the downtown aquarium, 1801 North Griffin Street, near the Historic West End District in downtown Dallas.

It took about 3 plus hours to leisurely walk through the entire exhibit. I'm glad we were warned to arrive at opening
time, which is 9am for all summer months (I think). It was perfect for my almost 4-year old grandson. My two
year old grandaughter enjoyed also. They have made this old warehouse into a rain forest and you soon
forget that you are in downtown Dallas. It was humid but very manageable conditions. Look at brochure
on arrival so that you don't miss the shark feeding. I recommend viewing the feeding from down below instead
of above where they throw in the fish. You feel like you are in the tank with the sharks. No one was disappointed, however, I do not recommend thiis for people that need assistance in walking as there are a lot of steps. There is an elevator but I couldn't
see wheel chairs as being ideal. But there were many strollers that were carried to the different levels.
I look forward to going back again. It was well worth the $20 for adults to get in.

I have on my list - Grapevine Mills Mall just installed an aquarium. I haven't seen it yet but sounds good.

Based on the ages and no price limit, you might go see a play at the Dallas Children's theater or the Richardson Eisemann. You can also go to Slappy's at the Galleria and let the kids play in the playcenter after. We took my in-laws to the Nasher Center.

The senior might also appreciate the flight museums. The one at Love Field has a play area. The Cavanaugh has both indoor and outdoor displays - interesting for kids and seniors. There is a car museum in Richardson on Campbell Rd.

There is also a soda fountain in Dallas in one of the drugstores. Think ice-cream and frozen custard too. Enjoy!

The childrens museum at Fair Park is really fun. I'm not sure how crowded it gets on weekends, but if you go right when it opens it shouldnt be too bad. Also, you can pair that with the Fair Park Aquarium. I would pick that activity over the Downtown Aquarium. Toss in a snow cone and a ride in the paddle boats and you have a fun time. Also, mostly inside and plenty of places for grandparents to sit.

Also, ditto the duck pond at North Park. We go there, throw a bunch of pennies in and run around a little, and then go up to the food court for a Jamba Juice and a Sonic Happy Meal.

Its embarrasing, but Dallas doesnt have a whole lot of cool indoor activities for toddlers on weekends. Hopefully I will find out more from this post!

The Fair Park Aquarium was a blast for my toddler, but it was about toddler sized too so I'm not sure how crowded it gets on the weekends. North Park has a turtle/duck pond indoors and great art/sculptures all around the mall if you just want to take a walk about.
