Hi!! I'm a new mom and my only child is about 2 years old, and today while I was making a salad my daughter took a cucumber I had layed out and jammed it into the strings of my grand piano. I have know idea how she shoved it so far down and I will have to replace many expensive peices to get it out. Should I be mad or dying of laughter at this unquie moment and should I yell at my daughter?

What can I do next?

When my son was 3 my husband redid his room. New paint. New wall paper half way up and then a very expensive border that went around the middle of the wall and then light blue with clouds painted from midway point up to ceiling. I went in to get him ready for bed one night and he said look mommy I made rainbows. He had ripped half circle size pieces of the border off and colored in rainbows. Thought my husband might blow a gasket. We like you were angry about the action but we laugh about it now.

i've twisted myself into a pretzel trying to recreate how a 2 year old would make her way to the inner strings of a grand!
i hope your piano is okay!
please don't yell at her. she didn't do something deliberately awful. she's only 2, and didn't know this isn't appropriate.
but go in the other room to laugh. hearty guffaws WILL teach her that this sort of thing gets her an appreciative audience. of course it's way too far past the moment now, but a stern face and 'no, no! food does not go in the piano!' followed by locking yourself in the bathroom and shrieking is a better way to go.

I bet you had never told her not to put cucumbers into the piano.. so she didn't know it was against the rules...

I say you have to just shake your head and move on... call the piano repairman...

I never thought I would say to my kids.. don't lick your sister.. don't put beads in your nose.. but I have said all of those and more..

Don't yell. She's only 2 & won't get.
Your fault for leaving the cucumber out & turning your back. ;)
Hopefully it won't cost that much. Try to laugh. Getting mad won't fix
anything (only pike YOUR blood pressure) & she's too young to make
the connection.

Kids are the original 'think-outside-the-box' thinkers!
Apparently you DO have to tell them not to throw a tennis ball at a ceiling fan (while it's running at high speed) - the ball can accelerate enough to break a window.
Thank goodness this wasn't from personal experience I found this out but still - who else but a kid would think to try something like that?

I'd call your piano tuner or whoever cares for your piano to get it cleaned out.
Expensive as that might be, it's still be cheaper than trying to do it yourself, doing more harm than good and maybe permanently damaging it.

I have no advice but this truly made me laugh out loud. If I were in your situation, I'd probably yell. But since it's not my piano, it's pretty funny.

In any case, honestly, I hope the damage isn't as bad as you think and that the repairs aren't too costly.

You should be angry now and let her know under no uncertain terms that she should never do anything like this again. If you laugh now she may think it will be funny to try it again. In a few years you can start telling the story, and you and your daughter can both laugh about it. It will be a great story to tell when she is in her teens.
