GL! My experiences w/ such things would lead me to wonder why anyone would give you an albuterol inhaler for a baby vs. a nebulizer.
Definitely push for it.
I am trying a whole new pediatrician since I *needed* a new one. Hoping he is proactive in helping to treat my baby's wheezing rather than just dismiss it since she is out of steroids and the albuterol inhaler isn't working as well for her as I would have liked. Chances are it will be hte same thing of 'she is fine' and walking out of the room but it is worth a shot! I heard this doctor gets good reviews online but we shall see! ;) Debating whether to push / ask for a nebulizer since I heard from other lovely mamas on here that the inhalers dont' work as well for a 10 month old as a nebulizer would. I don't watn to be 'that mom' who insists on something but I am getting to the point of desperation in wanting her to stop the coughing fits and wheezing during the day and night. In any case, wish me luck!!!! LOL. Sorry to whine on here about it all, I just hate even posting anything on the other sites I have found, they are so quick to be so rude and mean! Thanks for listening to me belly-ache. ;) hahaha
Soooo....took her in on Wednesday. Doc was AWESOME!!! I truly love how wonderful he was at listening to everything that I had to say and ask. And even better, he addressed all concerns, and was very thourough. He said she has:
RSV Broncholiotis, her Ear infection is healing properly, he heard wheezing in her chest even when I couldn't hear it during normal conditions (chances are that it gets worse which is when I can hear it but she is wheezing all the time) He said she is to stay on the prednisolone and gamve us even more, she was perscribed a nebulizer AND he said he suspects Reactive Airway disease but won't put it on paper yet however will TREAT it. And because both hubby and I are asthmatic, he believes she is but will wait until she is 2 years old to give her an official diagnosis of it. (fine by me! :) He said the RSV is what flarred it up and chances are will give her issues from now on :( Either way, happy he was so wonderful!

Nebulizers are best for babies. I would ask. Why shoould your little one
suffer.
You know your child. I had to switch my kiddos dr once. Our doc moved and the one who took his place just wasn't a good match for my family. I always heard, "it's just a virus. There's nothing we can do." we switched doc and she had tubes in her ears within 18 months. No problems since! I'm surprised that your little one is on an inhaler. Seems weird to expect a little one to breathe in enough for it to be effective. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. Btw you are only advocating for your child. You are being a mom not THAT mom.
Just wanted to say Good Luck!!! Keep us posted. Hope your baby girl gets some relief!!
My son had the same experience as an infant. I switched to a pediatrician that was also an alergist. What a difference! I found most pediatricians do not understand asthma and alergies so they pretend to treat it but don't know what to really do. And you do need a nebulizer. I would do whatever I had to to get one. Your insurance should cover it. There is no way a small child can use an inhaller. There are also other medications that will help. Please don't worry about being "that mom" but worry about NOT "being that mom". You are your childs voice and if you feel she is not getting treated properly, do what ever you have to to get her what she needs. . Best of luck to you. M..
you as her mom know her best, go for your gut instinct!! I just wanted to pass on something that really helped my son when he was a baby- we had to prop up his baby bed, so he could breathe better at night and the coughing wasn't so bad. We just put a couple of big phone books under each leg at the head of his baby bed and it was propped up a few inches. It really helped. Not sure if that is something your dr recommended but thought I'd pass it along. Good luck to you and your little one!!
