It's a cool fall weekend and I'm getting a hankering to pull out the crock pot for the season. Does anyone have any good (fun and yummy) crock pot recipes for things a picky four-year-old would eat? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I'll be sure to try them. I've always loved my crock pot (though admittedly I don't use it much in the summer months) but it was the "picky toddler" part I was hung up on. :) I'll try your ideas on him. Thanks!

my 3 year old is a picky eater too. I take a large can of cream of chicken soup, with a bag of frozen corn and peas and rip up a rotisserie chicken and mix it all together. Let it simmer in the crock pot and serve over Grands biscuits. He LOVES it.

Place 1 frozen pork loin or tenderloin in pot.
Pour 1/2 bottle of cheap BBQ sauce (I like Kroger brand because it goes on sale for $1/bottle)
Pour 1 large can of EITHER apple pie filling OR pineapple chunks or tidbits
Cook all day. Serve over rice or egg noodles.

You can buy 16-bean soup in the dry beans isle. I just put it all in the crockpot all day and come home to really yummy soup.

Pour a can of beer in.
Place whole chicken or a turkey breast in with whatever spices or rubs you like.
After you take out ad eat the cooked meat, save the drippings add 4cups of water and make soup from the left-over meat and a bag of mixed veggies.

Hi, L.! Tis the season for comfort food! My family loves when I put a roast in the crock pot with an evenlope of Beefy Onion (or Beefy Mushroom) Lipton soup mix. Toss in a bunch of carrots, and let it cook for about 8-10 hours on high. The meat will be falling apart, so I shred it up after I remove the carrots. I buy the small rolls at Wal-Mart, slice them up and make beef sandwiches. We have the carrots and a lot of times I will make a pan of cheesy potatoes -- which are delicious! Here's the recipe:

Spray a 9X13 pan with non-stick spray.
Add 1 bag of shredded hash browns.
Sprinkle with seasoned salt and pepper.
Drizzle 1/2 - 3/4 stick of melted butter over potatoes.
Stir together a can of cream of celery and 1/2 can of milk, pour over potatoes.
Spread a 2 cup bag of shredded cheddar cheese over potatoes.
Cover with foil, bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
Remove from over, stir very well to combine everything.
Sprinkle potatoes with French fried onions.
Cover with foil again, return to oven for another 30 minutes.

Those potatoes are requested from me ALL THE TIME!! Everyone LOVES them.

That's a yummy meal for everyone!! Enjoy!

Sounds weird, but my family LOVES this...throw in a pkg of onion soup mix, a small jar of apricot preserves and 1/2 bottle of low-fat catalina dressing, mix together and add boneless, skinless chicken breasts (my crockpot cooks this on low for 4 hours). Serve on plain rice with a vegetable.

Ok, I have a few fun, but fall like recipes. Now as for the picky part..umm I guess you'll have to decide. I have 5 kids, though, ranging from 17 to 6 so they all have their likes and dislikes.
First is slow cooker Lazagna:

1 pck uncooked laz. noodles
1 tsp italian seasoning
1 # ground beef
1 jar spaghetti sauce
1/4 cup water
1 cont. cottage cheese divided(or Ricotta)
2 cups Mozz. cheese
Grease bottom of slow cooker. Break noodles in half.
Place half of noodles in bottom of pan.
Stir Italian seasoning into browned ground beef. Spread half over noodles in slow cooker.Combine water and sauce and spread half over meat and noodles. Then half of each cheese over. Repeat until done. Cover and cook on low. Cook only 4-5 hours max.Serves 4-6

Slow cooker cheesey Corn:
3 pcks frozen corn
11 oz cream cheese cubed
1/4 cub margarine cubed
6 slices american cheese cut up
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp water
2 tbsp sugar
Combine all. Cook on low 4 hours stirring occasionally. Serves 6.

The fun thing is you can replace the jar of sauce for tomm. that you can get from the local farm or produce along with using fresh corn. Your son can have an outing learning about the fresh produce come back and help you make it. Sometimes, i find, they like things better if the know they helped to makle it. Then make sure you make a big deal about what a good job they did. It's fun for both of you. Good luck-H.-Indiana

Hi,

My kids always liked beef stew. MAybe not every veggie (celery was low on the list) but most of it. Especially the carrots and potatoes.

Hi L.,

I just saw this one and wanted to direct you to my favorite recipe site. It is www.recipezaar.com

The greatest thing about this site is that it has what they call a recipe sifter. When you open the sifter it gives you choices of ingredients, preparation type, meal, level of ease, etc. You click on all that apply and hit enter and it narrows down the recipes to just what you have listed. Saves so much time and energy looking through recipes your kids would never eat in a million years. They also have cookbooks set up by members for specific things. Crockpot cookbooks, once a month cooking cookbooks and so on. People also rate the recipes and you can sort them by rating so you only get the tried and true ones. Check it out and I promise you'll become a fan.

Great recipes on here already! I actually have so many that I have a hard time picking. But, experiement with different meats and bottled salad dressing or marinades! One of our favorites is Pork loin and Italian or Zesty Italian Dressing. But, just about anything will work! Also, I have a couple of smaller ones to do vegetables in as well. Fresh green beans or corn are great! Just throw them in with some butter or seasonings.

If you really get going, I would just look at Walmart or a bookstore for a good crockpot cookbook. Sometimes you find a recipe and it will help your imagination to grow with ideas!

As you can probably tell, I live by my crockpot! You can also buy cheaper cuts of meat and because you slow cook them, they come out much more tender!

Good luck!!!

I make ham and beans in mine. I use pinto beans, but any beans would work. Soak 1 lb. of them overnight, and rinse in the morning. Put rinsed beans in crockpot, and chop up onion and celery and add to pot. Then put ham (cubes, ends and pieces, slices, etc.) on top. Add water to cover the beans, and pepper to taste. Cook all day on low. I bake corn muffins to go with this, and it is an easy one pot meal.
