Crib Net

My son will be 2 yrs in April and we have moved him to a toddler bed. I put him to bed and he will wake up most of the time between 3-5 am and will wine and come into my room. I hear him when he wakes up so I help him to my room, I probably need to put him back to his own and started something bad...My now older girls we moved straight into a twin bed with the side bar that somewhat worked. With that being said, I probably wouldn't do the net over the crib either, Case scenario: if the house would catch on fire in the nite, how would the toddler get out of bed and/or how hard is it for an adult to open it up in situation? Just a thought.

at age 2 and climbing out of crib it is time to move her out of the crib. That is the usual indication that it is time to move up to a toddler bed or big girl bed. I would worry about her tangling up in the net so would not recommend putting a net on the crib. I have never heard of a crib net but have seen them for play pens so thought they were to keep mosquitos or other bugs out of the playpen while outside. My kids were all out of the crib before age 2 so you were lucky to keep her there that long. A lot of babies climb out at 16-18 months and are in toddler beds as they are lower to the ground and safer if they fall out of bed. If you are worried about her getting out of her room put a baby gate up at her door and baby proof the room.

You might try just starting to use a toddler bed. My son fell out of his crib ONCE at aboout 1 1/2 so I converted his bed. He loved it he wanted to sleep in his big boy bed all the time. Sometimes he gets up and comes to my room but for the most part he stays there. Those crib nets seem a little crazy to me I don't feel comfortable with trapping a child in bed.

I worked for a family as a nanny and they had two year old twins. They had crib nets from a fairly early age, at first I think the intention was to keep a family cat "out" but as they got older it was to keep the kiddos "in"

The kids at age two were smart enough to figure out how to manipulate the zipper ( even with them on the inside and the zip on the outside...they were very smart little cookies!! = )

The parents would put a safety pin thru the zipper...I never really thought that was a very safe thing to do but I have also never been in that predicamnet either = )

By age two if they are climbing out of the crib I would say it is time to transition to a toddler bed...

Hi! We used a crib tent with our 2 boys & they are wonderful! We used them mainly to keep our cat out & to keep the boys from chewing the varnish off of the crib. If we had not had it on there my youngest probably would have climbed out (he had no fear when it comes ot climbing). With the way that the velcro straps hook on to the crib i can't see any child (or adult for that matter) ever excaping. The zipper how ever has a little pocket to put the pull in to keep little fingers from reaching it, but I'm sure toddlers are crafty enough to figure it out.
We put our boys in toddler beds when they were 2 y/o & put up a baby gate in the doorway to keep them in at night.

Maybe she is ready for a toddler bed. A new bed could be exciting and she may want to sleep in it. I know it defeats the purpose of her climbing out but its just a suggestion, her seeing her brothers in a big kid bed might be part of it. My son is 14 months so I haven't actually tried a toddler bed with him. Good luck!

don't waste the money. if she's old enough to climb out,
it's better to put the money into a good toddler bed with
rails and introduce her to the "big girl bed". I went
through this with my son, and even though I wasn't ready
to move him out of the crib, he was ready. the nets are
flimsy and can be frightening to them, or seen as a challenge. any determined toddler will find a way to
escape! when it became clear to me he was done with the
crib I took him to the sitter and took his crib apart,
removing every trace of it, put his new toddler bed in the
place the crib occupied and prepared for a few rough nites.
it didn't happen that way. he accepted the bed, but for
a few weeks wouldn't sleep in it! at first I'd get up to
check on him and find him sleeping on the couch! then he
went to sleeping on his bedroom floor. now he sleeps in
the bed all night. the transition was an easy one, and
now we are past a hurdle I was dreading. he was just
ready and I didn't want him falling and hurting himself
climbing out of his crib because I wasn't ready for him to
be done with it.
whatever you decide, good luck with it. it will probably
be easier than you think!

Usually when a child is big enough to climb out of their crib it means they're too big to be in a crib anymore. For one thing it's dangerous!!! I think it's time for you to save the money on the crib net and spend the money on a toddler bed with side rails. She's two years old and trying to tell mommy that it's time to start learning to be big girl. Also being a big girl bed will help when you deside to start potty training. I'd start now!!

I'd say it is time for a big girl bed! Why spend the money on a net if she is old enough for a bed? My PAT parent educator and pedi. both recommended moving them to a big bed once they started climbing out. GOod luck!

I would move her to a big girl bed before I would spend $80 on a crib tent that may or may not work. It sounds like she is ready since she is climbing out of her crib.

It is absolutely worth it!! My daughter started trying to climb out at a little before two years old. I did not feel she was ready for a toddler bed, so I decided to try the crib net. It works perfectly. It gives plenty of head room so they can still stand up in the crib, but there is no way for them to get out. It is mesh all the way around so it is easy to see in (and out). It was worth the money just to keep her in the crib for a few more months until I felt she was old enough for the toddler bed. I would have probably kept her in the crib even longer if I hadn't gotten pregnant with #2 and needed the crib.

I completely understand your perdicament. Unfortunately mine was quite a bit earlier. My son was trying to climb out of his crib before 18mths. With this situation the tent worked wonders. I have heard of people using the tent until there child was 3. I know with my son he was out of the tent shortly after 2. He was to big for a crib altogether. I guess what I am saying is yes the tent does work as long as your child is not to big for it. My son is in the top 90's% for height. It ultimately is what you feel comfortable with. I'd also recommend moving her to a toddler bed or regular bed. 2 is old enough and the danger of her climbing out of the crib and falling is very real. At that age, I definitely think the crib netting would be a waste of money.

We moved our daughter to a big girl bed by 18 months and haven't had any problems. Her twin bed is on the lowest setting and we have it on a bunkee board, so it's only about 1 foot off the ground. You can also by rails that tuck under the mattress to keep her from falling out too.

I wouldn't spend $80 on something that may keep her in a crib a few months longer,I'd spend $40 on a toddler bed at walmart.I always dreaded switching my kids to "big kid" beds but when they're ready they're ready.Id rather go through her getting out of the toddler bed you can always put a baby gate in the doorway,they make some that are taller they can't usually climb.I wouldn't personally invest in something that may keep her in a crib a few months longer.And I don't know how safe the crib nets are,I don't know anyone who's used one.

I used one and well my son never tried to climb out, it was for keeping the cat out. But i am sure it can help with keeping a child in.

Make sure your crib will accomodate a net. Our crib would not. We just had to bite the bullet and do the toddler bed early. I think I would have preffered the net if it would have worked. We did the put her back to bed a million times routine. It gets old quickly. At least with the toddler bed she wasn't at risk of hurting herself climbing out. Good luck.

I mostly have heard of people using those to keep animals out, not for keeping babies in. If he's climbing out, I suggest moving to a toddler bed. Sooner or later you will have to teach him about staying in bed, and this would be the perfect timing. I moved mine into toddler beds very early and just taught them that bedtime meant bedtime, and not to get back up. If you have a regular bed time routine, this is very easy to teach them this.

We actually used one to keep the cats out of the crib, but as the guy got older, it was wonderful, as it kept him in too. I bought mine off of e-bay for half the cost.... Check Craig's list too.

I went out the same night my son 1st climbed out of his crib and bought a crib net. I took it back a week later. He hated it so much he wouldn't go to sleep. So it was harder for us. I ended up putting the side of the crib down (so he wouldn't get hurt) and putting a gate at the doorway. He never climbed out again. Not sure why, but I'm guessing the challenge was gone and so was the thrill.

I know this isn't too much help, but a gate at the doorway may be all you need. Then again, I have friends who have used the net and loved it. It wouldn't hurt to try it out. Just save the box and be careful with it, you can always return it.

Your little Princess may be ready for a toddler bed, they do have rails so they don't fall out but can get out.
With my son's if I had used a net they would of found a Way out of it before the light was out. My folks bought bunk bed's when our eldest was ready for big boy bed. NOT Stacked. When we moved youngest from his crib, it was a lot easier on everyone.

Take her shopping with you and let her help pick out her Big Girl bed when your ready.

Our daughter climbed out of her bed when she was 15 months old, so we purchased
a crib net. It worked great for about 3 months until she figured out how to unzip it
every morning before we came in to get her. We couldn't figure out how she was doing
it so fast until we peeked in thru the door. She had a big grin on her face and was working
very hard at it. We finally moved her to a toddler bed and it worked like a charm.

I'm completely against it.A 2 year may need to get out of their bed or room in case of an emergency or you may have to go in after them and seconds it'll take to figure out how to get the contraption off is vital,I don't even close my childrens doors at nite.But it is your choice.I too have a 2 yr old girl and a 5 yr old son my son does well in his room at nite no problems my daughter is still getting use to her big girl bed and will need extra time but the time spent teaching her to stay in her room for nite-nite is better to me than locking her in.

Sounds to me like she's ready for a bed. That would be a better investment than a crib tent IMO.
