Has anyone used a memory foam topper for an infant mattress?

My three month old son's mattress is extremely firm and is such a restless sleeper however when he sleeps on my bed which is a memory foam mattress he seems to do better so I just wanted to get some feed back from anyone that did use one.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks you for all your very helpful answers! Before even reading your advice, last night I decided not to get it. Although his crib is in my room and I do have the babysense monitor I still think it is risky and definitely would not want to harm him or put him at risk in any way.

FYI - He is swaddled and has to have one arm out and eventually may even get the other arm free too. He turrns/moves his head a lot, though he is only three months has very good head control. Also the only time I have him sleep on my bed is during an afternoon nap when I am next to him.

For his safety I feel the firmer the better.

NO! NO! NO! Please don't put anything on top of your son's mattress other than a mattress cover and a sheet! Crib mattresses are firm for a reason, to prevent suffocation/smothering. A soft, memory foam mattress topper is a definite suffocation/smothering hazard, because if the baby rolls over his face can get pushed into the soft foam and become stuck. It will also make it much more difficult for him to roll back over on his own, so if he couldn't breath with his face in the mattress, he also might not be able to roll over to free his face. He really shouldn't be sleeping in your bed if you have a memory foam mattress either! It's SO dangerous! Please read the following articles:

Agreed! Hold off until he is in a toddler or twin bed! As others have said, crib mattresses are ALL firm for a reason. Try swaddling your baby if he is restless. It will help him feel secure and keep his arms from flailing about. We swaddled our first son until he was 9 months old.

I have not used one for either one of my girls and until he can move his own head around really well on his own, that way he can move his head so he won't suffocate, I wouldn't. They make less firm mattresses for the crib. My 1st daughters wasn't that firm and the 2nd one we got was really firm. But on the other hand, as long as you can hear him so if something went wrong you would go get him I don't see what the problem would be.
