We are taking the boys to Disney World this year for their birthdays (turning 5 and 7)!!! They already know we're going to WDW, but I haven't told them when. So they have NO IDEA we're going for their birthdays. Does anyone have any cool ideas for surprising them, what to do, say, make, etc? Also, should we tell them the night before we leave, the day of, should we get them Tshirts, tell them at their joined bday party? Or is it really more fun to create a calendar and let them count down the days? I like that idea, too. HELP!

What can I do next?

AT that age you probably would be better off waiting till the day you leave to tell them. Or get in the car and head out either to the air port if you are flying and maybe tell them when you get to the air port. Or they may bug you till you get there from the day you tell them. If they still let you have some kind of say in their cloths try and pick out a shirt with a Disney theme.

When my kids were 10 and 8 we surprised them with a trip to WDW. On Christmas morning, they opened a box with certificates I made that said we were going to WDW and must leave today! I still have the picture with their completely surprised faces. It also had lanyards with a couple pins, Christmas ornaments and photo albums. They LOVED the surprise and even 6 years later say it was the best trip and best surprise ever!

Have fun!

I think it would be really cool to tell them the day you are leaving. I would just ask them if they would like to go to Disney and then get on the plane and go. I think counting down the days would be like torture for your kids.

I bought my daughter a new swim suit and wrapped it in Mickey Mouse wrapping paper. So the night before we left I gave her the gift and told her she would be needing it the next morning. She opened it, looking quiet puzzled and went to bed.

The next morning I had her put it on under her clothes since we were flying to FL. When we got to the airport we told her we were going on a trip but didn't tell her where. She figured it out pretty quickly when we got to FL and got on the Mickey Mouse bus to get on our Disney Cruise. It was so much fun!

My parents did this when we were growing up. We drove all night and when we got there we were all asleep. My parents woke us up as we were driving around and could see the park :). Amazing. I was maybe 6 or 7.

For our kids we are taking them on a cruise for Christmas! We're going on January 4th though, so they'll have a bit of a wait to really know what we're doing. We aren't sure exactly how we will do it yet. I might just wrap the airline tickets and tell them we're going to Miami for a week. And then surprise them when we get on the boat the next day. We'll see.

I had thought about wrapping all of their "cruise" stuff together (new swimsuits, goggles, water shoes, etc) and pictures of the places we are going...I've got lots of things rumbling around. Good luck!!

Haha, we're doing the opposite: kids know we're going to Florida, but don't know we're doing Disney & Universal (told them it's too expensive & we'll just hang at the beach). I think I'm going to wait until we're down there & just drive us on over to WDW.

Maybe you should just get them packed the night before after they're in bed & in the morning just say, "Come on, get in the car! You'll know where we're going when we get there!"

We told our kids that we were going on vacation but did not know where. When we got to our hotel (after an 18 hour drive) we handed them each their favorite stuffed Disney character! They guessed it right away! It made it memorable!

i like suprising them the day of. have their clothes packed, suitcases in the car and tell them you're going somewhere else until they figure it out.
