We are giving our kids a trip to Disneyworld for their Birthdays in April. They will be 4 and 7 (one girl and one boy). Any ideas on how to present it to them?? I would rather be able to give something to them physically rather than just tell them they are going, but on the same note I do not want to have to spend a lot of money on the presentation. ALl ideas are welcome....Thanks
If it is after Easter, here is a cute idea that a someone I know did. Write a note on like "In one week we are getting on a plan and flying to WALT DISNEY WORLD." or something like that. Cut each word out (keep the last ones - WDW together) and put each word in a plastic egg. Put a label on the outside with a number that matches up with its spot in the sentence. Hide the eggs and have the kids find all the numbered eggs. Once they find them on Easter morning, have them line them up in order. Then they can start to open them and reveal the message. It will be a great Easter present too! Have fun!

When I was little, my parents wrapped up my suitcase and put the plane tickets inside. It was Christmas time, so I had a few other things to open as well, but maybe some of the other small suggestions (shirts, Disney stuff) could go inside.

check to see they may have a specail video that they could send to you on things that they may be able to see or do while there. we took our boys out youngest is 5 and then he would of been almost 3 he still talks about it to this day he wants to go back. You could maybe get a stuffed animal of one of the characters that they like. Good luck you'll run into something . HAVE A GOOD TIME !

Maybe you could do a simple scavenger hunt with Disney related items? I don't know if you have ever seen the show Blue's Clues, but you could do something similar to it where your kids have to find three clues and then figure out where they might be going. Maybe have a suitcase or airplane as one clue, a picture of a castle as the second clue and maybe a picture of Mickey Mouse or t-shirts with Mickey on them as the last clue? Hide them around your house or in the yard. Something interactive like that would be fun for them.
What an exciting birthday! I hope you enjoy your trip!!

You can go to Disneyworld.com and request a free vacation planning DVD. That would show them where they're going & possibly where they will be staying.

A great inexpensive idea is take 2 index cards and place disney stickers all over it and make a notation "Good for trip to Disneyland".
Then place them at the table or on there pillow (without them seeing it done)
Most kids are curious and will ask what those cards are for.
Have a great trip!

We took our 4 & 6 year old to Disney a year and a half ago. One of the BEST money savers in the park, that we stumbled upon, was buying some Disney stuff before we left. Our daughter got a princess ball cap and a princess t-shirt before we left (They WILL want that when you get there - it's everywhere and all the kids have them and they are way overpriced...). Our son had some sort of Disney t-shirt as well. You can get them at the Disney store, but really Kohl's or Sears probably has cute ones as well. You could also get some Mickey Mouse Crocs before you go. They are great for in the park and sell for a lot more there.
This was great for us, because we felt we could use our "spending money" on other things, but we were still all decked out in Disney.
For a suprise, you could wrap up t-shirts, crocs, or other Disney apparel as a gift. You could then tell them, the items are for them to wear when you are at Disney. Sort of a two-for-one. Enjoy!!

What about mouse ears? Maybe a card made with Disney stickers? Sounds like a fun trip! We hope to go in about 5 years -- without a stroller and naps!

You could wrap up a suitcase with Disney pamphlets inside. Another idea is to make autograph books that they can take to get autographs from the characters. They sell them but homemade ones can be very simple and cute. Have fun!

C. - I love the commercial with the balloons coming out of the greeting card. Perhaps you and your children have seen that. Maybe you can do a take off from that commercial and do a card with confetti in it and then have a Disney balloon available for both of them.
A Disney cake could also be fun.
Enjoy the trip - lots of great memories there from when my children were young.

When our daughter was nine, we surprised her with a trip to Disney World. I wrote her a poem that contained "clues to a very special surprise" and gave it to her. We also gave her a small travel kit - a small tote bag with Disney themed activities and items (mostly from the dollar section of a store). She had a lot of fun figuring out the clues and the poem still resides in her "precious memories" box. You could also get brochures from a travel agent or put together a mystery kit - sunblock, inexpensive sunglasses, small Mickey (or other Disney character) item, toy airplane, etc. and let them figure out what it means. This can be done as a treasure hunt too.

get a brochure or something to symbolize disney world and hide it. or get many pictures of clues about it and sent them on a scavenger hunt in your yard or house. when i was in highschool my mom did that for me when the first harry potter movie came out and i thought it was fun even then. she worked at a daycare and hid clues all over and sent me on a hunt and at the end were movie tickets.

We went to Disney last December and presented our 4 & 7 year old with a Disney sticker book. On the last page was a story I wrote and it talked about two little girls (princesses and their mother and father, a Queen and King). As the story developed it ended with the royal family going to a far off kingdom and it was the Magic Kingdom.
It was a big hit, the storybook sits on our shelf and you wouldn't believe how excited they were. The 7 year old read the story to the 4 year old as we all watched and listened that Christmas morning!
Have fun with it and let yourself be creative!
Enjoy your trip,
J.

We did this for our two kids (ages 10 & 8 at the time) at Christmas. I went Online and ordered them each a lanyard with a starter pin, got them each an autograph/scrapbook, Disneyworld DVD, a few other miscellaneous items and a certificate that said we were going to Disneyworld and must leave today. We have it on video and pictures capturing the moment they figured it out. We left four hours after they opened the package from Grandma's house. They are 13 & 11 now and still say this was the best Christmas present ever. My daughter actually says that if she ever has kids she wants to surprise them like this. Good luck and have fun!

When we went to Disney World, I went to the disney website and custom made a map just for our family. It was so much fun when we got it in the mail addressed to our family. Also - I bought the kids each their own disposable camera. We had to buy one at the park and it was $25 - so buy them before you go to save money. Not sure if your kids are into dressing up - but we were able to get some really cute dressup before we went. My daughter wore her tinkerbell costume every day and loved it. One other thing - if you are going to do the autograph book - see if you can find a really huge pen. The characters all have those big gloves on - so the big pens are easier for them to hold - also it was easier for us to find. Have a great time!

Hi,
What if you would get a big box and put balloons filled with helium in it. When they open it the balloons will float up just like on the Disney commercials. Attached to the balloons you could put a tag or card on it that says you are going to Disney. Good luck!

My parents took all their children and grandchildren to disney world. The adults knew about it but here's how they surprised the little ones:
Each one got a kid-sized wheeled suitcase with a disney theme. Inside was a pair of disney PJs and a set of mouse ears with their names embroidered on them. The kids figured it out pretty quickly!

We went to the book store and purchased a book for kids on Disney World. The book gave our son hints on what he might wanted to do and not do along with feed back from other kids. We wrapped the book and gave it to him when we picked him up from school for Spring Break, and headed for the airport to go to Disney World.

What a wonderful gift! My daughter and I went when she was 8-it was wonderful! I surprised her on Valentine's Day with the news. I know of another family who suprised their kids at Christmas with a cruise! You could purchase them each a swimmming suit (something they'll need for the trip anyway). Wrap the gifts in Disney paper and see if the 7 year old can figure it out. Who gets a swimming suit in April in Wisconsin?!?! You could also go to the dollar store, pick up some some travel items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush) and wrap them in Disney paper. I know of someone else who bought the Mickey Mouse ears @ the Disney store, but that's kind of a waste of money on something they won't get use of. HAve fun!!!
