My 18 month old SON has adorable blonde curly hair. It is beautiful. The problem is he has so much of it that a haircut doesnt last long and it is always messy. Also he gets called a girl alot. Not sure what kind of cut I can get him with such curly hair. I would like to do something with hardly any maintenance since he doesnt like me to comb it anyways. Help....

What can I do next?

I have been doing hair for 7 years, hopefully this will help. Hair on average grows about 1/2 inch per month. If you cut his hair to an inch long it should last about 2 months. That way you can enjoy the curls without it getting too long and out of hand. (which means he is less likely to get called a girl) The most stylish way to wear it is the same length all over. It will also grow out better with that cut. Paul Mitchell makes a great curl detangler for babies and toddlers called "taming spray" Use this after baths and in the mornings to detangle, then add a little bit of curl definer. I like ones that are not a gel, my favorite is Paul Mitchell's "Round Trip". Bed Head also makes a product called "curls rock" that is really popular. This will make the curls look naturally groomed and not crunchy (which went out with the 90's). Finger comb these products in, then push curls towards head for max effect and let it air dry. Touch as little as possible to avoid frizz. At most finger comb it again once dry. If hair in general is too bulky, have your stylist thin it out with thinning shears as well. Don't worry about what people say, some just don't have a clue. People call my baby a boy (even when she is in a dress, with a bow!)

oh so cute! my son had beautiful blonde curly hair and he was frequently called a girl as well. He would freak out when I tried to comb it but I didn't want him going out with matted messy hair so eventually I got it cut and it looked nice but after just two haircuts, his beautiful curls are gone :( it makes me sad and now I look back on his baby pictures and I wish I never cut his hair

My dd has fine curly hair and she does not like anyone brushing her hair. So I use the natural fructis products. They have a leave in conditioner for curly and frizz that I use for myself. I usually will take some of that an put in spray bottle water it down and spray it on her, or I will use the excess from my hand and rub through her hair and that will usually help. I hope this helps and gl

My son has curls as well. I cut the sides and back very short. The clippers they use it a one. I leave the top a little longer so his curls show. With it being so short on the sides and back it lasts about 2 months before we are back in. Also it doesn't take a lot of grooming. I take a spray bottle to the top of it and comb it out and put a little gel in there to keep the frizzies out. That's about it.

My son is the same way. He was called a girl several times, but I love his curls and I am not about to cut them off. He is now 6, and he even likes his curls. So, we always get the top cut a little bit short, finger length my husband calls it, it is more straight/wavy anyway, and have it blend into the back where his adorable curls are. We get the curls cut to where they are just starting to curl out. This usually lasts a month and a half or so. Once, a lady messed up his hair and cut off all the curls, I freaked, but they grew back in no time. If his hair is really a rat's nest in the morning, and he is not taking a bath before school, I always wet his hair down with a spray bottle, comb through it, and rough up the back to get the curls nice again. Our girl has the same type of hair, and we are struggling to keep the static out of it. I found that my good conditioner works well. Good luck and have fun trying new styles for your son. I'm sure he is adorable with his curls.
