I have an 8 1/2 month old baby boy. He is not yet crawling but other babies his age and younger are. He does not like to be on his stomach and rolls whenever I put him on it. He has been sitting up on his own for over 4 months. All of the research that I read says that crawling isn't a developmental milestone but I am still get upset that he is "behind" his friends. Any advice would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I wouldn't worry about it, kids develope at their own rates. My oldest was 6 months when she started crawling and my middle was 10 months and she was 9 months when she sat up and my youngest was 8 months when she started crawling, so i wouldn't worry about.

Every baby delevops at their own rate. I have seen some who don't start crawling til they were close to 10 months and don't start walking til after a yar old. Depends on the child...

I HAVE A 22 MONTH OLD AND HE DIDN'T CRAWL UNTIL 10 OR 11 MONTHS BUT STARTED TO WALK RIGHT AROUND A YEAR. I ALSO HAVE A 7 MONTH OLD WHO DOES THE SAME AND JUST ROLLS OVER WHEN HE IS ON HIS STOMACHE AND IS JUST STARTING TO SIT UP. JUST BETWEEN THE TWO I SEE DIFFERENCES... I WOULDN'T WORRY ALL KIDS ARE DIFFERENT. IF YOUR DOCTOR ISN'T WORRIED JUST DON'T WORRY. ALL KIDS WALK AND TALK BY THE TIME THEY START SCHOOL!

Hello. My son is now 20 weeks old and had the same problem at the same age. He would stand up next to the couch and sit up just fine, but no crawling and he screamed whenever we put him on his stomach! He started to crawl at about 10 1/2 months, and then bam! he was walking at 11 months! It was like, he just didn't want to have to do the crawl thing, so he only did it for about 2 weeks. I have no doubt that your little one will start to crawl soon enough. As you said, it's not a big deal, but it would be nice to see the progress. Just give him time and keep on with the floor activities and don't stress. He can probably sense your stress! Good luck :)

I have three children. My first never crawled. He did an army crawl at about 9 months but that was it. He walked at 13 months. He would do the same thing, roll over when put down. My second child crawled at 5 months and walked at 10 months. My daughter is now almost 10 months and she started crawling around 7 months. I really think it's because yours is the first. I have seen it with other families also. The first child is held a lot more and doesnt have the interaction with older children as much. My two youngest do everything so much faster than my first did. They try to keep up with their siblings. I wouldnt worry about it. All babies develope at their own rate. My oldest also talked a lot later than my second. Thats just something I have noticed being around children a lot.

I had a similar problem with my son. He did a modified army crawl at about 7-8 months old. But one day he just started crawling. I think that was around 9 months. now he just turned one and started walking a week before his birthday. Does your son stand at all.. I think that if he is hitting all of the other milestones then he should be ok. Some babies just skip crawling and go straight to walking. Good luck. I hope that helped some
