Craniosacral Therapy for Kids?

Does anybody have experience with information on craniosacral therapy for kids? And the effects of such a treatment on emotional wellbeing? I took my little one in to see if she could be helped with her sleep issues, and what happened was that we came back with a dramatic increase in emotional expressivity. She went from laid back, even keeled child to yelling screaming crying at the drop of a hat. Very worried and not sure what to do...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Moms! The girl I went to for the first session is a natural healer, but not specialized in treating children or preparing parents for the aftermath. But there is someone in the area who is. WIll take my little one to her to finish what was started. It does seem like the process was begun but not quite seen through. I am happy my little girl is more expressive, but alarmed that she gets so emotional and has also gotten sick twice for the first time since she was born. Will update here for other moms when I have more news. Thank you all so much for your input, insights and advice. Also, Jennifer thanks for the Ca tip - I bought some liquid Ca and we are all now having some before bed.... :)

Keep continuing treatments and you'll see the pay-off. Both my kids and I receive treatment and it's helped everything from sleep problems to car sickness as long as you have a well trained doctor. We see the traditional Osteopath who are trained in it during school.

You don't say how old your child it......

Our son had a very traumatic birth. (Shoulder distocia, not breathing, cpr, ambulance ride to a NICU at another hospital, etc.) When he was released from the NICU at 1 day old, my husband brought him to the chiropractor on his way back to me at the other hospital. She did this for him. HE LOVED IT! He just relaxed, moaned, and fell asleep! It really took a lot of pressure off his head. (He was pretty messed up from the vacuum coming off 3 times and his head was all swollen......) We continued to bring him in for craniosacral therapy for a couple months and he loved it every time. It made a world of difference for him.

How is your chiropractor doing it??? Ours just pushed lightly on different spots around his head. He would just go limp and fall asleep every time...... Smiling while she would do it. You could just SEE the relief in his body.

Try a different chiropractor.

Make sure the person performing the therapy has been trained to work on babies/young kids. There is a difference in techniques.

I've done it with a physical therapist, but would also try a chiropractor. Find someone who's not necessarily doing it to treat pain but believes in treating the whole body/mind connection. And yes keep going! This type of treatment brings forth any memories of pain or bad situations, releasing them. So yes it can result in temporary emotional issues. But the more you go, the better it will be! Ask the practitioner what to expect afterward and long term.

We have used this for our daughter (currently 11yrs old) for help with emotional issues. She loves it and always falls asleep with her sessions.
That said our cranial therapist has been practicing for years and is very in tune with each patient.

I would definitely set up some time with the therapist for you to talk to him/her. Ask about their training with kids - esp your child's age. Express concern over her 'reaction' / 'response'. Go with your gut based on the response you get.

Talk to friends in your area if they have recommendations of someone else to try.

Good luck!

Sounds like she's in the middle of processing everything. I would do a few more sessions and see. My chiropractor for the kids does some cranial and sacral work, but she also helps to clear emotional blockages. My friend's son get angry, I mean, screaming angry at 9. She takes him in to see our chiro and within minutes, he is calm and normal....and this lasts weeks to months. Anyway, sometimes it takes a few sessions to get through it all. If it continues, then, maybe you might want to take her to another practitioner, another CS practitioner and see what they have to say....or see my chiropractor.

We've found that giving the kids liquid calcium/magnesium at night, they sleep like rocks and are well rested in the am. We give them Blue Bonnett or Lifetime calcium - blueberry flavor.
