My son had terrible cradle cap for almost year/half... finally I used dandruff shampoo for about a week - every other day - and it started to fade. Just lean her back to not get the shampoo in eyes....

If I recall correctly (my kid's now 2 years old), I slathered some vaseline on my son's head to moisten and coat the cradle cap scales, then a few gentle scrubbings with a washcloth and comb cleared it right up. Never came back after that.
*note baby oil will work just as well as vaseline, it's the same concept.

Hi N.,
See if you can find a trial/ travel size bottle of dandruff shampoo. You won't use much if u get the big bottle. I used on my son and it worked. The doctors (ped.) can also give some small ointment tubes (not sure what they call it) that will work. Best regards, L.

Hello N.,
I have two kids and both of mine had this. I would put them in the tub and then use a cotton ball with some baby oil to get the area soft. Then use a baby comb and comb the flakes out. The hair will be a little greasy but it comes out as you wash it a couple of times.
Good Luck, G.

Aveno baby shampoo daily, when you wash her hair use a baby hair brush{one with very soft bristles} to work up the lather and lift the cradle cap.It will take a few days but the gentle use of the baby hair brush will work, it worked well for my daughter..she is now 11 months old.

Hello N.,

My oldest son had it when he was a baby and his pedetrician told me to use Johnsons Baby Oil put some on her head at night and then wash out in the morning. I did this for about a week or so everynight and it cleared it right up.
I didn't use and other "home" remedies only what my doctor told me to do and it worked like a charm.

Mustela Foam Shampoo for Newborns works wonders. My son had a severe case of cradle cap and my dr. recommended it. It cleared it up in a few days and he never got it again. My youngest son is 10 months old and I've been using it on him and he's never had it. It's expensive (10.00 for 5 oz) but it lasts. I still have the same bottle I bought when my middle son was 4 months old and he's now 2. The bigger Bath and Body Works stores carry it. I ordered mine from them online.

I used baby oil in her bath. It got rid of it quickly. Of course you need to remember that oil is slippery so she will be a little slick when she gets out...lol
Good luck

Hi, N. - Naturally based products, i.e. those without harmful chemicals would probably be beneficial. There are many great lines available; we use Melaleuca in our household, with great success. Good luck!

So my 3 month old baby girl has had the same thing. After doing some research thereno real 'cure' for it but you can try this home remedy that helped me. Take a small amount of olive oil and rub into her scalp. Then take a very fine toothed baby comb and brush out the scaly flakes. This worked for me. Just be sure to wash her hair and scalp soon after. Hope this helps. I read that it will clear up on its own. So hang in there.

Rub olive oil on your baby's hair about 20 minutes before bath time. Shampoo as usual. Brush inthe bath. Then shampoo again. After about a week of doing this it should be gone.

when you are washing it take that white baby brush the hospital gave you and rub her head lightly in a circular motion. this will break off the flakes and loose skin. after washing get a lotion or cream for cradle cap and rub it on the affected areas. it wont get rid of it entirely but it will look better.

My son had it bad when he was about 3 months old. I rubbed a little olive oil into his scalp then used a soft bristled tooth brush to gently loosen the flakes. I then used a baby comb to get them out of his hair. After I'd worked out as much as I could, I bathed him and washed the oil out of his hair. I had to do it a few times over a few days, but it was all cleared up after that and we had no more trouble.
