Believe it or not, it is as simple as using Dial soap. I know it sounds harsh for a baby, but when I was desperate, someone suggested it to me. It WORKED!

I have been having the same problem, (although my daughter has not been itching, her forehead is just scaly) and the other day while researching cradle cap online I read that you are not supposed to moisturize because this makes it worse because the cradle cap is due to overworking sweat glands. That's what I had been doing!! Instead last night I put some baby oil on a cotton ball and rubbed it over the scaly parts of her scalp. It is mainly her upper forehead and into her hairline. I left this on while I got her bath stuff ready and then used a fine tooth comb to comb out the flaky skin and then I washed and dried as usual - although it took two washings to get all of the oil out. The more I combed, gently of course, the more flakes came off. It seemed to work better when I combed from her forehead back instead of from the back of her head forward. Plus she had quite the cool hairdo at the end! Good luck and hope this helps! And here's where I got my info: http://health.discovery.com/centers/infant-toddler/care/g...
Hi Agnieska, My baby is 8 weeks old and has had cradle cap for while now. She was itching and scratching her forehead and eyes and I tried everything over the counter. I went to the Dr. and he prescribed a moisurizer with some cortizone in it. IT has worked beautifully! With in two days her itching has stopped and her skin is flaking less. So call your doctor and ask him about it. It has to be prescribed by him/her. Also my doctor said not to use ANY soap when washing my baby. Only soap her bottom where the diaper is and just use warm water on the rest. If the babies hair gets real dirty use just a touch of mild soap to wash it. Rinse well. Thats what I have been doing and again it has worked great. Gook luck:) J. S.
My son had cradle cap until he was 5 months as well and I finally could not take it anymore. I called the Doctor and she told me to put olive oil on his head every night before his bath for 1 hour. Then wash it out and comb out as much as possible. Then she had me put cortaid 1% (over the counter) on the spots on his cheeks and forehead. It was gone within 2 days. It was a great relief! It is worth a try!
I would try to keep the water in a little under luke warm and then try the creamy baby oil and massage it into the scalp and forehead (you could use the eczema cream for this) and then gently comb his hair to flake off some of the dry skin. Did you also try different shampoo for him? Maybe he's allergic to the product or even go to a gentler version. I hope this helps...
Ugh, I hate cradle cap! What worked for both my kids is get their heads wet (works best when giving them a bath, for obvious reasons) and apply an oil to their scalp. I used Burt's Bees Apricot Baby Oil, but any oil will probably work just as good. Rub it in a little then get a comb and slowly and gently, in short stokes, work it over their scalp, gently scraping off the excess falking skin. It's pretty gross and will get all in their hair and in the comb, but that's good! Once you've done that, shampoo and rinse their hair. It may take a couple shampoos to get all the oil out. when their hair dries, you'll be able to tell if you missed any spots and you can repeat the process.
This worked very well for me; I hope it does for you as well!
Have you tried Cortaid...ask your doctor first, and don't use too much. But if it's just on his forehead...a little goes a long way. Also...I used to put socks on my son's hands, as he had eczema also.
When my 12 year old son had cradle cap as a baby, i found it odd that his pediatriction recommended that I use Selsen Blue n this head. But after one use, the cradle cap disappeared. I was very nervous to try this because the producr isnt gentle on the eyes. Call and ask your doctor first, i dont want to give bad advice.
Some other things Ive heard and seen is Baby oil and a comb. but that is messy and takes more time and can irriate.
Good Luck
i tried a little bit of olive oil and that cured my baby of it! And it's natural. :) hope that helps!
We were told by many family, friends and even our physicial over the phone that our little one had cradle cap and tried the lotions, but it just got worse. I would recommend a pediatric dermatologist becuase he actually had Excema. They are not easy to find, but worth it! There is one in Grosse Pointe and one in Sterling Heights. My regular dermatologist didnt' feel comfortable prescribing anything for an baby under 6 months. We used an antiobiotic (our son was 4 months) and in two days, it was gone. Then we could use the creams to keep it away. We used Cera Ve and Eucerin cream in the tub, not the lotion.
Cradle cap is just like dandruff. If he has cradle cap he should have a "coat" of dry skin on his scalp under his hair. If this is what he has, I would use the smallest amount of dandruff shampoo being extremely careful not to get any in his eyes. You will need to do a little scrubbing to get it to come off. It will help.

Take the baby to a pediatric dermatologist. Your pediatrician can recommend one.
The only thing that cured my son's cradle cap was 1% hydrocortisone cream. I would put it on him every night for a week before bed. I had to do this treatment a few times, but each time I did--it got better. This is available over the counter and what my pediatrician recommended.
Go to the dermatologist. They game me a prescription shampoo and lotion for my sons head. It worked right away. Everything the pediatrician told me to do did not work. Good luck.
Have you tried Arbonne baby shampoo and wash? It's $14 a bottle. Give me a call if you'd like some.

If he has cradle cap - I tried taking baby oil, massaged into scalp, and then took a small baby brush and comb to remove the cradle cap. I actually did this on recommendation of my daycare provider. My son had had little touches of cradle cap, and it never went away entirely until I did this. If his forehead is itching, however, this might be a little different, as the cradle cap my son had was on his scalp only where his head of hair was...Hope this helps
