Cradle Cap - Oswego, IL

My son and daughter both had it. My son's was worse. The doctor told us to shampoo with Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo. It loosened it up and went away.

A little baby oil on their scalp at bathtime and then gently rub did the trick for all three of mine. Some on here won't like baby oil, but it worked for me.

put plain old olive oil on the babys head for a few minutes. Let it soak in.take a fine toothed baby comb you probably already own and comb out the plaques. Repeat in a few days. It should only take one or two times to do and if it keeps coming back i would suspect you are eating(if you are nursing) or baby is eating something he or she is sensitive/allergic too.

we used baby oil and a soft baby brush in a circular motion that flaked it off and htat did the drink as soon as we got all the flakes off it went away however looking back my son has TONS of food alleriges and i wonder if this was a precurser to things to come. Wish I wouldhave known,
I wanted to ask for your help. I am looking for a support group for parents with children that have special need well really special illnesses/diagnosis and that are sick. By anychance you know of any one I can talkto y=or a group i can join?

For my son's cradle cap, we tried every remedy I could find, including oils, heavy creams, and such with no success. In fact, the brushing with oil actually worsened it. We even did an allergy test, but there were no food allergies either. What finally worked for him was prescription strength hydrocortizone 2%. Try the oils and brushing, but if you find it doesn't go away or gets worse, as my son's did, call the pediatrician to see what will work for your baby.

You need to find the root of the problem, which as another poster mentioned, is probably a food sensitvity/intolerance. Dairy is usually the #1 offender so you should cut that out of the diet first for at least 2 weeks and see if that helps. If breastfeeding, the mother should do all the eliminations also. If it has not improved, move on to cutting out soy, nuts, peanuts, etc. Olive oil soaked on the scalp will help remove it.

What always worked for me was baby oil on their heads, rub it in take a comb and scrape it. May take several times but really works!

Try switching shampoo and bushing with a soft bush, that worked for my baby. There was a posting to use hydrocortisone cream -- I would ask my dr., there are differnt strengths of cream, some which are noit safe for children.

Our baby had cradle cap for quite some time. Fortunately, cradle cap is merely cosmetic and does not hurt the baby or hinder his/her growth.

We just used a very soft baby brush or a washcloth and massaged the scalp when washing his hair.

Don't worry - the baby will eventually grow out of it!

Mustella has a foam shampoo for cradle cap, it's wonderful. You get the Mustella products at BRU.

I would suggest using Arbonne or Burt's Bees baby shampoo. Then after baby's bath, lightly brush the head with a soft baby brush. That worked for us. I found baby oil did not help much and just made a mess!

We were told to put baby oil on. But I found out later that a touch of hydrocortozone (sp) cream might work as well especially if it is itchy.

I had a hard time with my daughters. What ended up working is I would wash her head really good and kind of rub a little harder on the areas to loosen the flakes. Then when she got out, I would put a lot of lotion on her head and take a baby comb and comb her hair over and over again. It cleared up in about two days. I tried a lot of other stuff and it didn't work.

My daughter's head was very scaly. I would wash her hair, then vigorously brush the visible scales out with a soft baby brush and then apply olive oil to her head with a cotton ball (she smelled delicious! ;-). I would repeat throughout the day, as necessary. I would also pull off very large scales as they appeared. It was amazing how quickly her head would scale over! Cradle cap only lasts about 3 weeks, from my recollection.

Our daycare lady used oil then a soft, natural bristle toothbrush to remove our daughter's cradle cap. It never came back after that.

Rub some conditioner on it for a minute then rinse. It usually goes away after a few days :)

We use Burt's Bees shampoo and before I wash his hair I massage in burts bee's apricot baby oil. After the bath, brush it with a baby brush and it should really help. Try to avoid shampoos with harsh chemicals that will dry it out further. Our ped said to only bath once or twice a week to avoid drying out his skin and scalp..

We were told to use a dandruff shampoo by our pediatritician. It took care of it and I just was able to buy a travel sized bottle because you use so little on their little heads. Just be EXTREMELY careful not to get it into their eyes.

They say babyoil and brush with a soft brush to remove the dead skin but it didn't do much for my son. Switching shampoos made a huge different though. I went from J&J to Burt's Bees and it completely went away. Maybe try switching to something more mild if you haven't already.
