Cracked Ipod

I bought my 12 year old an ipd for her birthday in June. When she got it she was told we would jot replace it if it broke. Yesterday she dropped it in the driveway and the screen shattered. She was crying and begging me and my husband to get her a new one. We reminded her about what we said when we first got it for her. She's still really upset about it and I'm starting to wonder if I should replace it. I know I said we wouldn't but should I get her one for Christmas?

What can I do next?

Same thing happened to my son. The screen still worked though lol! Look on Craigslist and see if there is someone near you that fixes ipod screens, we found someone who did it pretty inexpensively, which he paid for. No way would I replace it myself, kids have to learn the consequences of their actions and the responsibilities that go along with them.

A. sorry you broke your iPod screen but maybe if you just ask your parents to replace the screen and work off the cost in chores they will do that.

get the screen fixed as an early christmas present.
what's the big deal?
why even tell her that it wouldn't be replaced? i can see sticking by your guns, but those are pretty mean guns. who buys an ipod without insurance or getting a protective case for it anyway? that's just asking for a tween to have an oopsie.

There is a kiosk in our mall right outside the Apple Store where they fix all kinds of Apple products. Once it is fixed, get her an Otter Box cover for it. All the folks at work who have iPhones have these kinds of "covers" that are really more like a heavy duty armor for the device.

I would replace the screen, not the whole Ipod. My kids have cracked screens. Make sure you go to a place that would know what they are doing, not just says so. I looked into it and it would cost between $30 and $60 depending on how it affects the camera (if the camera has to be replaced as well Also, get a good cover for her to protect it if it falls. Totally worth it.

No need to buy new. She just needs to earn the $ to fix the screen. And buy an otter box case.

Hmmm, this happened to us - but it was lost, not damaged. I did end up replacing it - but with a cheap, non-Apple version to prove my point. In this instance it seems like a genuine accident, she wasn't being irresponsible - I would replace it with a cheap version or give her a way to help pay for the new (Apple) one. The point surely isn't that she can't have a new one, but that she need to understand the value of it.

Get the screen fixed or get the kit and fix it yourselves . Just don't charge it before you do that . My daughters stuck together because it was charged so the kit didn't work .No more cute cases . She must have an otter box to protect it .

You didn't get insurance on it? We got ours fixed that way.

Accidents happen. That's why we got insurance. I'd see how much it is to fix it then go from there.

Fix the screen and get a cover for the thing! There's no way I'd own an apple product without a good case, preferably an otterbox.

Have you thought about allowing her to earn the money to replace it?

Come up with different chores, and a money amount for them, and encourage her to earn it on her own.

If it still works, replace the screen for about $40 - $60. Make her work for that $60!

There are places that will replace just he glass screen for a fraction of the cost to replace it. I would look around for one of those places. You can have her do extra chores etc to help pay for the replacement screen. I would then invest in a protective case such as an Otter Box which will protect it more in the future if it were to be dropped again.
