Cox Vs. Direct TV or Other Satellite Provider

We currently use Cox for our internet, phone and cable service. I have already cut back a little on our cable service, to save some money, but it's not making that much of a difference... From the ads I see or mailings I get it seems like satellite TV may be cheaper? However, everyone I know uses Cox and the few people I have run into who use Direct TV have stated one issue or another with that service.

Could I get some honest feedback from some satellite TV service users? Has anyone switched from Cox (or other cable provider) to satellite and if so, are you happy you made the switch?

What can I do next?

Satellite TV(digital) is affected by the weather. We found that clouds, wind, or the occasional too sunny day would cause the reception to be interrupted. I know one family that doesn't have service now because the tree next to their house leafed out and blocked the signal. It is frustrating, but with everything going digital it may end up being a problem for all of us. The service we used was Dish Network in this area and I would not recommend that company or any of the other franchises associated with it. We found them to be deceptive and sneaky about how they do business. We were told one thing and the opposite thing happened. When we canceled the account, they went into our bank account and took more than we owed. They charged us for the equipment that we returned to them, but we didn't get a credit for it for a couple of weeks. We really didn't like their business ethics at all. I don't know who to recommend because we went back to "rabbit ears" after that. If it was a "must have" I would go with cable.

We have either Time Warner or Direct TV.

We switched to Time Warner from Direct TV. Direct TV was cheaper in the long run. The quality was better and the shows were better.

I needed Road Runner for my business so I switched. Direct TV doesn't have a cost effective internet provider.

I will switch back to Direct TV. I just loved the fact that we could tape shows and have them still recorded for as long as we wanted.

I love our Directv! The dvr ALONE is worth the occasional weather outages. They never last long so that's why I overlook THAT issue.

My favorite thing after the dvr is being able to get Baby First Tv. It's for 6 month olds to three year olds.

My husband and I REALLY like the "shows" they have on. There is NO commercials and it's all educational in one way or another. All the segments are no more than 10-12 minutes at the most so YOU'RE not stuck watching something annoying or boring.

The dvr is wonderful. It holds WAY more shows than any other dvr and I never have a problem like my friend does with her cable issued dvr.

I have things on there from three years ago and have NEVER lost one minute of any recorded shows! With Directv you can also program your dvr ONLINE. You can log into your account and set the dvr to record the shows you want to see. I think that is so cool.

I never had COX for cable, we have Charter where I live. We switched to Dish Network about 7 years ago, then switched to Directv about 4 years ago and we love it! I would never go back to cable!

We have directv and we love it. The only downside we have noticed is if it storms/rains really bad, it goes out. But it is never our for too long either. We just think they have great services. We get all the HD channels which are also great and the price is pretty reasonable.

We use directv but i really want cable again. The signal is always going out, it's such a hassle. Half of the time our reception is bad as well. We currently have NO signal on our upstairs tv.
