We are paying a very high amount for our cable services. We have the Internet, Land Line, and Digital Cable through Cox. We are considering using another company for our Cable. Which do you prefer, and how is it compared to Cox, and the Price?

We have DishNetwork and pay ~$60/month. Hubby wanted HD channels... so it is what it is. The reception is mostly good--and I'm totally loving the DVR. If it hadn't been for HD, we would've gone with Comcast to get the package with internet... now we're looking at another ~$40 just for that! If you're getting the whole package, you might look at Comcast or Quest. Comcast has better service, but crummy customer service. Quest has better customer reviews but worse coverage.

We have been with DirecTV since 1996 and have always been very happy with their satellite service. My DH loves football and they are the only place you can get NFL Sunday Ticket. We used to have Cox for basic cable, phone and Internet, but finally got sick of their terrible service and high prices and switched everything to Qwest. We even had our DirecTV service billed through Qwest to save even more money by bundling. We have been very happy with their service(s) and customer service. And they are cheaper than Cox. You can get info on-line, by calling or going to their kiosk or store locations. Be sure to ask about specials.

I don't know about the cable, etc., but you can save money on your land line by not having one! If you get the Magic Jack, it costs $40 for the software, and then $19.95 PER YEAR - no long distance charges, either - because it goes through your high speed internet connection. We have one and it is saving us $50 a month. Good luck!

We have directv. We've had many problems with their techs but now that Directv owns the local tech companies here, the customer service has been much better. Even with all that I feel they have the best channel line up. There are always rep's to call no matter what time of day that are willing to help. I also love the DVR service but I think they all offer that. New customers always have specials so your prices the first year will at least be decent. I think prices are all similar from talking with friends and family.

I haven't had cox in years and I've never had Dish network (only know people that have both). I guess if you've never had something else you don't what your missing or how great you've got it.

I have however been at people's houses that have Cox and I like my Directv better. I knew someone that had Dish and he said they didn't offer as many channels.

I would call all of them and see what they offer, things change and update all the time.

Let us know what happens. Good luck. :)

We had Cox, but then we received a flyer for phone, cable and computer from Quest. We switched the phone and cable over and it was a nightmare. They contracted out to another company to give us a sattelite (Sattelite Visions). We are saving $50 per month and can't do the computer because they can't serve our area. You should check around for prices first, then go back to Cox and tell them you may switch....see if they can match the price before you switch. it is very competitive these days.

Your only option is Dish or Direct now since Qwest doesn't have digital cable anymore. They only have Direct TV. We have Direct TV with the Qwest Bundle with HD and 2 DVRs (1 HD and one not). We totally love it! Thier customer service is excellent. A tech guy had to come out once & gave us his direct cell number for us to call him in the future for quicker service. (we haven't needed to yet).

Also, if you have Verizon, you can bundle it with Qwest too for even a cheaper rate.

I have heard of alot of people recently getting rid of Cox mainly because of their poor internet service. Our internet with Qwest has been perfectly fine, plus it isn't stored on our hard drive like Cox supposedly is. We have the Qwest connection, but use yahoo or gmail e-mail.

We had Cox phone, internet and cable. Our bill was $195 (this included their "bundled discount"). I recently switched the TV to DirecTv but left internet with Cox, canceled landline altogether. Our bill now is $55 per month for Direct and $59 per month for internet with Cox.

I like the DirecTV much better than Cox. We have the DVR and I like the programming abilities with Direct. You can put in an actor's name and it will record every show that actor is in. You can also prioritize recordings. That way the kids don't override the season finale of your favorite show with SpongeBob! Cox doesn't have either of those. Customer service with Cox is worse too...tho they are improving.

Breakdown:

Phone: use your cell...all landlines are ridiculously expensive and not even portable!

Internet: High speed is the only way to go. We like Cox for this

TV: DirecTV

We love our DirecTv! The DVR is great and we rarely ever have issues with service due to weather or whatever. We have our internet and phone through Cox and have been happy enough with them for that. Almost never have connection problems. I would never use Qwest again because they added on services to our account that we didn't ask for or authorize and couldn't even use (dial-up internet without a modem) and it was a pain to get rid of and fix. And I know we weren't the only ones.

We just recently switched to Direct TV and have been very happy with so far. We looked into switching to Qwest for their bundle, but we are to far away to get a decent internet signal. So we stayed with Cox for phone and Internet. We are probably paying about the same as we were before except we are now getting HD channels along with a DVR.

My friend recently introduced me to the MagicJack which is about $40 and you get free long distance with it. And it's only $20/year after the initial investment. I think I will be dropping my phone line with Cox and getting that.

We have direct TV. Mostly because my husband sells it. Plus we have the DVR, HD channels in one room, then two other rooms set up. For about $60 a month. We get way more channels than cox. There are free weekends on the HBO channels from time to time so we dont have the premium channels.

I have been very happy with Dish Network. I have used Cox and hated it. I have also used Direct TV at other people's houses and find that our Dish DVR is much easier to use. We have the HD channel programming, and it isn't cheap, but we have too many channels too! We pay about $100 a month, taxes and everything, for everything but the premium channels (HBO, etc).
