First of all, catching the cold from being cold is the longest running, most widely spread wives tale in existence. Colds and flu are viral. My 12 month old hated snow. But is sounds fun, so do it.
It’s beautiful outside, so my sister and i wanted to take our babies outside to see snow and enjoy the amazing snow-covered landscape. But I was afraid that they might catch a cold given that they were just 3-month and 6-month old. Could we bring them outside on such a cold day?

Hi L., at 3 and 6 months old they will not even remember seeing snow, they are not old enough to appreciate the beauty of snow, i would wait til they are. As for colds, they are cause by a virus, not the cold itself. J.

Cold weather will not give your baby a cold. The problem with allowing a person to become truly cold, is that their body becomes stressed and has less ability to fight infection (it's busy with other things, like keeping vital organs warm). So, keep the little ones warm and they should be more than fine. Fresh air is great.
Oh, and keep your hands washed...it's the best prevention against illness.
Yes,take them out. Wrap them warmly, and enjoy the Winter!
Germs, not weather, cause colds. Make sure the babies are warm enough, and don't stay out too long.
Yes....bundle them up really warm and take them out.
I have relatives who live in Minnesota and babies have to go out in snow all the time to get from Point A to Point B.
Being outside won't give them a cold.
yes, of course... enjoy the snow. It is my understanding that you don't catch a cold from being outside; the reason so many people have colds in the winter is because they art indoors more... were all the germs are. Have fun!
You don't get sick from the cold, you get sick from germs. Dress the baby warm and don't stay out long you guys should be fine. Take pics and have fun!
I think as long as you bundle them up it would be fine, however at that age, they probably won't be too into it. At least the 3 month old won't be. And if that is the case, bringing them outside for just a little bit, maybe to even just get a few pictures is sufficient enough.
Also, Shannon is right, I just had a conversation not too long ago with my daughter's teachers husband. He has a daughter that went to school to be a chemist or pharmacist. (Something of that sort) Apparently she teaches at a college now. Anyway, she learned and teaches exactly what Shannon said, that its being cooped up indoors that actually makes people catch colds.
Yes - and a tip is, if you don't have gloves for them, you can use socks! Double them up!
Bundle them up really good and enjoy! You won't get a cold from being outside in the cold, you have to get a virus. Us Ohioans have to deal with the cold a lot! (It's 9 degrees here right now by the way!) :)
with a winter coat, hat, gloves and shoes on their feet, they will be just find outside for a few mins for some fresh air.
This will be more for you and your sister than for the babies. They will never remember it, but you can take them out for some fresh air and pictures! Make sure to bundle them well (hats, gloves, double socks, cover cheeks, etc) and only take them out for a short time (5 minutes?) on sunny days with no wind chill factor. Have fun, but above all STAY SAFE!! :)
We live in Colorado. Cold and snow is a way of life, no matter what your age. If you go, just make sure they are bundled with layers. Don't keep them out in it too long. Enjoy!
There's no harm in dressing them up and taking them outside for a little while.
I took my son outside to watch Daddy shovel the driveway when we had some snow (which was unusual where we lived at the time) and he just cried the whole time. We tried again when he was a toddler - he hated it. He didn't even enjoy being pulled on a sled. Once he was 5 yrs old - then he loved it and he has since then. Take a few pictures, but the kids might not appreciate it the way you do for a few more years.
of course you can. dress them warmly and take them out into the world.
snow will not make your children sick.

You can definitely take your babies out and they won't get sick from the cold. Babies in really cold places like Canada/Alaska/Northern Europe go out in cold weather all the time. Compared to those places Los Angeles is not really cold. Dress the baby the same way you would dress yourself and have fun!
Not so much a concern about getting sick b/c germs have nothing to do with temperature, but I think this is really more for you and your sister. The babies won't get it and should be covered outside anyway! At 3 and 6 months, you would be exposing them to new vocabulary, which is great, but a board book about snow would do the same.
If you want to go outside with the kids, go. Please make sure that they are bundled up with layers (including their little hands) and blankets in the strollers. You should also have a lightweight blanket to cover they whole stroller if the wind kicks-up.
Just get them a snow suit. That will keep them warm and they can enjoy being outside.
No one, babies included, gets a cold from being in the cold...Colds are viruses and you need to be exposed to the virus in order to catch it. That said, dress them appropriately and they should be fine. Keep in mind that babies have trouble regulating their body temperature so no matter what you shouldn't be out there for prolonged periods of time though...
Have fun!

You get sick from having a lowered immune system. I am around sick people constantly and never, ever get sick. I get enough rest, drink plenty of water and eat good food....and my body fights off everything.
Taking your babies outside is fine. Just make sure they are dressed warm and don't stay out for 5 hours. The cold air will actually stimulate their immune systems, without the introduction to bacterium and viruses.
Everything is moderation.
PS We get our snow clothing from Children's Orchard. They are all over and are 2nd hand new-like clothing for babies and kids. Half of the stuff I buy still has the tags on them. We bought my daughter's jacket for this winter for $3 - and that's great, since she'll probably on;y wear it once or twice since we live in SoCal. We might head up to the mountains for a weekend or 2. If we lived in Minnesota, I wouldn't care about spending $50 on a jacket, since they'll get more use out of it.
All of the stores are independently owned, so the selection can be totally different from one to another:

People don't get sick from weather they get sick from germs. It sounds like this would be more for you and your sister not the babies. Make sure they are warm and HAVE FUN!!!
