Could I Be Pregnant?? - Burlington, VT

I have a four and a half month old bebe and I have been breastfeeding her. I have been suplementing more and more with formula because of a chronic lack of breastmilk. In just the last week or two my milk supply has diminished so much that I am almost exclusively using formula. I feel like I might be pregnant but I took a test yesterday and the result was negative. Of course, since I have not had a period yet it is hard to say when I may have conceived. Suffice to say that my partner and I have not used any birth control at all at least 3 times in the last month. oops:) I just feel pregnant. My breasts are not tender but I am exhausted (more than normal) and I don't know...it's just a gut feeling I have. I am more moody than usual too and my nails are suddenly super tough like they were when I was prego before. Could it be something else? What are the odds of a false negative? When should I consider going to the doc? I feel a little silly calling now...

What can I do next?

Your supply droped because you are suplementing. The more the baby nurses the more milk you make, the less she nurses the less you make.

Don't be embarrassed going to your OB/GYN. I was on the pill AND breastfeeding my daughter when I got pregnant with my son. They are 15 months apart. When I got there my OB/GYN was pregnant again too! Her children are 13 months apart. It happens to alot of us. But you need to go. Prenatal care is very important. Again don't feel silly at all calling! It's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck with the breastfeeding and possible pregnancy.

moodiness.. Post pardom. Everyone gets some, I wonder when it ends. My son is 7 months and although I don't break down crying when the St. Judes commercials are on anymore, I am still not myself in many ways.
Now possible pregnancy? very possible? since you don't have a period to judge when to take an ept (as soon as your first missed day) you should see your doctor. Plus, if it is just a scare, get some b/c while you are there. even a diaphram if you can't take the pill just yet. I know it's hard to use condoms all the time, but if not that's how you get a set of matching babies.

if you just stopped nursing, your period may not come back right away. you could be moody because you stopped nursing, or your period is going to come back soon! if you have a gut feeling, i
would make an appt. with the OBGYN. just to see! good luck!

Go right away. You could have something else wrong. Tell the doctor your symptoms.

Hi,
First if you are pregnant again, good luck! I have a 6 year old and then we spaced out our second and he is 2. Ten months after my 2 year old was born to our surprise is another one! Having them so close together is difficult, at least for me. My husband works so it's just me with them usually and I can't give them the one on one attention they need. I didn't find out I was pregnant with him until I was 4 months along. I guess I just didn't want it to be true. He's here now and I wouldn't trade him for anything! I hope everything works out for you and just to be sure I would go and see your doctor.

firstly - if y ouw ant to breastfeed - STOP supplmenting with formula. Your lack of breast milk is because you are supplmenting. All my breastfed babies nursed every hour for the frst few weeks - they need to - to help you build up a good supply of milk - it's NOT a sign that you have no milk. Your breast are never truely empty when you are nursing... but will take a baby longer to get milk out of a "empty" breast then a full one.

Secondly - get the blood work test for pregnancy... HPTs can produce false negeatives - esp if you test too soon.

good luck with the breast feeding and possible pregnancy!!!
