Corporate Team Building Activities

we are in the beginning phases of planning a department day off at the park in late May/early June. We're looking at having a Survivor type theme with some physical and mental challenges. Nothing too crazy or time intensive. I was hoping to get some ideas of a team based physical challenge. I'm very athletic and play sports/work out 4-5 days a week, so I want to make sure we think of something that people of ALL fitness levels can participate in.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I was at a team building function a few years ago and can suggest one of my favorites. Depending on the number of participants that you have will determine the SIZE of the object that your group will "stand on and flip".

Say you are using a large bath sheet 30 inches by 57 inches and you have 12 people to stand on it. The object is to "flip" the towel to the complete opposite side and back again without anyone falling "off" the towel.

The KEY is to have people stand on one leg while others hold onto their arm, waist, etc to keep them from falling while someone starts to flip the towel. If you live in the Dallas area I would be happy to demonstrate sometime.

Hi E.,

We just had a team building event in Miami. An off-site company came and hosted the activities. Here are the three activities we did (we also did a Survivor themed team building a few years ago, I'm trying to remember what we did)...

Depending on the number of people, we had three teams of 8.

1. Each team started with a half of PCV pipe per two people. There was one ball. The team had to line up and get the ball from one pipe to the next without falling on the ground. There was a space of maybe 50 feet from start to finish and the goal was to get the ball into a bucket at the finish without it falling on the ground. Once the ball left the first pipe, those two members has to run to the end of the line to catch the ball again and so on until it reached the finish.

2. There was a circular area set up that had maybe 20 numbered sheets (one number per sheet) in it spread out in no particular numerical order. Each team had to go in the circle, one person at a time, and touch the numbers in numerical order. If we touched out of sequence or on another number by accident, that was a five second penalty added to our time. Each person on the team had to go in the circle but there was no limit on how many numbers they had to touch. The first three or four team members on our team touched one number each and the remaining team members had a few numbers each until we touched them all. Run back to the start and the time stops. We did this three times and the team with the fastest overall time won that challenge.

3. Our last activity involved boards and a puzzle. We had maybe 6 or 7 boards per team and there were these foam lizards spread out between start and finish. As we made our way across, we had to pick up the lizards and carry them with us. With the boards, we had to use these to get across and we had to manage it so that we were all on the boards at the same time and as we continued along, the boards had to be picked up. The board at the end was picked up and passed to the leader and that's what we used as the next step. If you stepped off the board you had to start over. Then the lizards formed a puzzle that you had to put together at the end.

For our very last challenge, we were given different parts and we had one hour to make a boat. Then we went to the pool and each team had one person in the boat and we had a race to paddle to a certain point, turn around and come back. That was a lot of fun!

We had a good mix of men and women for this event and everyone was able to do these challenges. I'm more than happy to meet with you in person to explain these to you in better detail if you want to, so they make sense.

We have used North Texas Boot Camp for some group events and they do an outstanding job and I think they could handle a challenge like this.

I love the outdoors and we have hosted a number of Team Building Events for groups as small as 12 and as large as 300. With my Summer Day Camps starting in June, we will already have our large 40x40 tent up at Meadowmere Park on Lake Grapevine. I could design a GREAT outing for your group to include Team Building as well as outdoor recreation. Feel free to contact me for more specific details.
