I am going to Disney World June 4th with my son. I've been told it will be hot. For those who have been to Disney in June, how was it for you? What did you do to help cope with the heat? Any advice? I appreciate any suggestions you have.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I do live in Texas, but I usually stay indoors as much as possible in the summer!
I will definitely buy those battery operated sprayer fans. I didn't know that Disney has some cooling measures for some of their rides, while you stand in line. I know that will help.

It's not that bad. Swim a lot, take frozen water bottles into the parks with you. CUPS (not bottles) of ice water are FREE for the asking at all park quick service counters! Time breaks from the parks to be in the hot part of the afternoons. Little water bottle fans are great for the kids, and Walmart usually starts carrying those about now for like $5 apiece. Spend time in the air-conditioned parts of the hotels and resorts at those times. We would often take a Disney bus to one of the super fancy resorts (Grand Floridian), in the afternoon and explore inside and outside the resort to help beat boredom and heat.
Have fun!

It will be hot just drink lots of water. Keep in mind that you will have sun showers still even in June. That usually helps cool things off some.

It's very hot. And very humid. Very humid. Blech!

Freeze your waters and a gatorade and you can drink on it as it melts during the day. Bring little packets of lemonade or koolade or whatever (you know, the little dry powder packs?) and you can pour it into your bottles and use water fountain water to shake up and make some lemonade that way, once it's lower on water but still slushy enough to make this new drink cold. Be there first thing in the morning, and leave during the heat of the day (our "siesta" is 12-3 or 3:30). Even if off site, it's not that hard to catch a tram to your car, drive to your hotel for lunch, a cool shower, a dip in the pool, or a nap. Head back out for 3:30 and take advantage of the evenings (they don't REALLY cool down, but they're a little better).
Find the wet rides on your map and plan your route so that you can hit one around 10 or 10:30, and hopefully stay wet enough to not be too hot. :) Those little fans where you spray the water (mist) are really nice. Cheap at Walmart, but available for a higher price all throughout the parks. Yes, walking throughout the park and in some lines there will be fans blowing a light mist, but you don't want to get "too" hot before this because it's enough to keep you down if you're mellow, but not enough to help if you've overheated. HYDRATE.

Chances are it will be hot as hell.

I would go straight to Walmart (or Walgreens possibly) on the way into Orlando and buy one of those battery powered, water-filled fans. Walmart has a good selection of Disney items. Whatever you do, don't blow $20 on one at the park when your child will be just as happy with a $7-$8 version.

Depending on the age of your child I would seriously consider renting a stroller too. The heat is not what wilts kids neccesarily - it's the humidity. I'd also start walking now to prepare. Disney involves ALOT of walking.

This book could be worth it too: http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Guide-Disney-World-Guide... . They have one-day touring plans that might save your sanity.

Good luck.

We went last June, and it was incredibly HOT (even by Texas standards, it was freaking hot). Get some of those hand held personal size water bottle squirt fan things (they sell them at Walgreens) to carry...otherwise, you can buy them at the park for $17 each. Yikes! During the heat of the day, we visited air conditioned attractions or swam and took naps. We tried to do the parks in the morning and evening. I said I'd never go back in June again, but who knows, it could happen. The heat was miserable, though.

Well today down here in South Florida was absolutely horrible hot. I usually go to disney in May. I always stay in Disney for easy access to parks with special extra hours, but we are not morning people lol I usually go to the park around 9 to 12. then back to the Resort. I never stay for the parade lol. Lunch pool time or inside relax nap time. We go back to disney after 4p for some food and some more fun prk time. If you are staying at disney get the sheet that tells you disney hours. It will tell you which park as early days or late days. If your an early person take advantage of the early times or if your like me not a morning person take the late times. As a morning person you really get a good deal of smaller lines for the rides for sure

Oh and most important wear hats and sunglasses.. Hot and bright..

You are from McKinney, you are used to the heat. Drink lots of water, we had bandanas we could wet and then wear around our necks.

Many of the lines have the sprayers and fans, some even have out door air conditioning.

We always went early in the morning to the park. and then at about 1:00, went back to the hotel, nap and then swim, then went back for the evening. We did this every day.

It is no worse than it is here (Texas).

We go to golf tournaments where there is not a lot of relief from heat. Last year at the Byron Nelson, Michelob Light was giving out these ice cold towels in a packet. They stayed cold until you opened the packed. I don't know how they did it, especially since we are in the plastics industry and packaging.. it was a GREAT idea. We still have a couple and when we go to the Nelson next week, we plan to use them. The Pavillion is the most popular spot but this year we have some special tickets for a tent which is AC and will be nice to go in and cool off.

The little mister fans are nice as well... just make sure they stay clear of long hair!! You can get pricey ones at Disney or get some here before you go.... they do the same thing... we have both.

Go into the shopping areas which are cooled with AC to get a brief cool off.

Don't miss the daily parade at 3pm!! I hope you have a great time!

We would go to the park that opened the earliest and stay there for a few hrs. Around 11:30ish we would have lunch in an air-conditioned place. After lunch, we would go back to the hotel to swim in the pool. By the time we were done swimming, resting and snacking...We would go back to the park around 4pm for an early dinner in an air-conditioned place and then enjoy the park during dusk...
The water bottle w/ sprayer is great !
In my opinion, the best time to go is when the kids are over the age of 7...especially when it's hot there.

One year I went to Disney both in April and in mid-June, and honestly, both times were hot. I didn't notice a lot of difference between the two trips. But we only did Epcot in June, and it was easy to go from building to building without much outdoor que waiting. This year, we are going to be at Universal Studios Orlando closer to late June! I'm a lil nervous because the kids don't have as much patience with heat as DH and I do, I guess we'll hit the water rides and indoor stuff most of the day.

I've done Disney in the summer and I love it. As a person who does not do well in the heat, I appreciate that there are ways around the problems, including morning and late evening hours and Disney shade.

Give in to the heat and humidity. No pride! Wear your most loose fitting, comfortable, light colored, cotton blouses and capri's. Better than tanks and shorts, because they cover your skin and create a little breeze! Water, water, water. And walk in the shade. Disney created many shady spots and I take advantage of everyone and stop in at every air-conditioned spot. Carry a ziplock bag for each of you, with facecloths inside. Wet at any of the food stands with water they will give you and wipe your faces and necks often. (Oh, yes, forget the makeup. It will only end up oozing down your face anyway.) Go slow, enjoy, and leave from 12 to 4. That's absolutely necessary. The pavement exudes moist heat in the middle of the day and zaps children and adults.

Have a wonderful time.

Yes, it will be hot and sticky! Drinks lots of fluids and if you can take breaks inside every once in a while. Just a reminder, in the summer in Florida, we have a rain storm around 4 pm almost every day. Last year seemed to be the exception.

Hi, We just got back from Disneyworld Mon. Living in Oregon the heat and Humidity (at times) zapped all the energy out of my 4 year. The best $17 we spent was on a Disney fan that sprayed water. It worked really well, and made her happy.

make sure you keep bottled water with you all day. stay in the shade at least periodically. but here is the number one best thing we did. Bring one of those water bottles w/fan attached. it mists you. and you can fill it over and over. we did it with ice water lol. but no kidding it was a huge relief to be spritzed thru the day. also. disney has a lot of indoor things. we sat thru the presidents thing just because it was air conditioned so set your day up so that during those really hot parts of the day you are near an indoor thing

I've done it 3 times. You get used to it. Freeze water bottles in the freezer in your room or kitchen over night and take them with you. The water at Disney tastes awful, and water bottles there are expensive! I had soft side coolers with lunch in them (lunches there are expensive too!) and used the water bottles as ice packs. Have lightweight ponchos with you too, because it rains during the day and then the rain goes away quickly. Umbrellas are pretty hard to walk around with because there are so many people. If your son is young enough, bring an umbrella stroller - it's lightweight and you can hang your coolers and diaper bag on them. Wear a belly pack or a bag that goes around one shoulder and hugs your chest or stomach so that your money is safe and your hands are free.

If you are staying on the Disney site, the buses are wonderful and really help. If you haven't bought tickets yet, buy the kind that get you in an hour earlier than the general admission, and BE THERE when you are allowed to be. The lines are horrendous if you wait.

Hope this helps!

Take your time, walk through the air conditioned shops. It is different than Texas heat, I think it is more tolerable. Like others have said though, Sunscreen! Have fun, and don't expect to be able to do everything. There is a lot of fun to be had, and only so much time.

I went to Disney around easter one year and we cooked in the sun, then got reprimanded when my 4-yo son took off his shirt to cool down. Not in Disney World, kid, I don't care how young you are! :)
