My son is 13 months old and I am thinking about going back to work, but I am not sure if I will go full or part time. My husband and I said at first we really didn't want to put him in daycare, but the more I think about it I am starting to wonder if it wouldn't be a good thing for my son. You know, to at least get him ready for preschool and all of that.
Has anyone else waited a year or more toenroll their child in day care and if so, what was the result? We have a pretty good routine at home and I don't want to freak him out, but at the same time we could really benefit from having to full incomes again. We do alright on one but there are a lot of things we could do more of if we had two, plus to be honest, I kind of miss work. Then again, I don't...so I'm confilcted. Working partime would be a good option, but sometimes I think it'd be kind of a hassle to go back to work just to go part time, because then we'd just be working around my husband's very varied schedule.
What are your thoughts?
Work from home! Solves all the issues - you can be with your son, have more money to afford to do fun things and have money to put him in classes if you so choose - NOT because you HAVE to! :) I've worked from home for 3 years now, make a great income, and my kids come FIRST! I'd love to help you do the same, too.
Hi I have four sweet little boys and I stay at home. I am scared to do the daycare thing. But we go to church and they go to sunday school and children's church. But I wanna feel like I am helping with the finances and rearing my children so I am working at home. I just started and so far it's been flexible and I am bringing in alittle extra money. After the birth of my second son, I opted for someone in their home in lieu of daycare to return to work. It was wonderful. Then, I immediately got pregnant again, my little girl also went to the sitter's house. I loved the fact that they got that attention and she was like part of our family. About a month ago, the babysitter quit and I had to find a daycare. I was very nervous about daycare. My kids are 1 and 2 going to daycare for the first time and they LOVE it. There are so many kids to play with and new things to do. Plus, my 2 year old has started talking so much about EVERYTHING! I hated to think about putting them in daycare as newborns but now that they are a little independent and aren't put in a crib all day, they have the best time. Also, think of all the artwork you will have. I framed my kids' Valentine's pictures and gave them to their grandparents as a special gift. There are many pros and cons but I'm sure you will do what's best for your family.

Sometimes I read these posts and find that we need to put daycare in different categories. Consider a NAEYC accredited child development center which stands for the National Association of the Education of Young Children. There are only a handful in the Birmingham area to my understanding. The teachers tend to be educated and the curricula are outstanding. They stress art, outdoor play...

I know where you are I was there but I stayed home with my son until he was 2 and half years old and I thought it was going to be rough on my son but it was harder on me. I go to work 3 hours a day and he goes to school. He loves it because he is with children his own age.
