Congratulations to Dad on Purpose! and Advice for New Daddies...

Congrats DoP! I can barely remember my own stuff (that's why I need you all for help) so no advice. Just enjoy that wonderful family!

Mrs and our newest are doing great. I've been absent as we moved last week and have had the in laws staying with us for a week so far (it'll be a month total)

Plus we have no home Internet yet....

All of which just gives me multiple opportunities everyday to practice my patience and my Zen Sobriety. :/

Yippee! The happy day finally arrived! Congrats, Dad! Life becomes zone defense instead of O.-on-O. for you now, stay-at-home dad!

Here is some advice from a mom of two. Take your older child out for some O.-on-O. time several days the first week. A new baby in the house is a bit overwhelming for a little child. He needs to know that he is still "the big cheese" in some respect. Then give mommy a break for her to get to spend alone time with him. He needs to know that mommy still loves him too.

The second week, pull out the photo albums of when he was a little baby and have mommy show him the pictures. He might even think they are of the new baby! She should tell him "This is YOU, honey! See how we took care of you here? See how much we loved you? Little babies needs lots of help because they can't do anything by themselves! You are such a big boy now. I'm so proud of how you have grown!"

Tell your son that his brother will get bigger in time and get to play with him. Tell him over and over as time goes by that your younger child thinks he hung the moon. Getting him to understand that the baby loves him unconditionally is a great start in helping him overcome jealousy.

If you have a chance, run out and buy a special gift for your son, and when you and your wife bring the baby home, give him the gift and tell him it's from the baby. Tell him that the baby loves him so much that he is getting this gift from the baby. Make it something that you know he would want - something to play with (not a keepsake - they don't understand keepsakes at this age.)

Hope your wife heals quickly from the labor and that you all get SOME sleep, LOL!

Congrats Dad On Purpose. I had no idea! Hopefully you're all doing well and getting some sleep.

My advice: take a few picture of the family (or just the baby) wearing cute clothes. We were so tired when ours were born that all the early shots are the babies wrapped in ugly hand-me-down blankets, or in dim lights.

And, if you can swing it, get out for an hour or so with your wife in the next week, even if it's just a walk around the block. Maybe an in-law or friend can stay with your kids while they're napping so you can spend a little O.-on-O. time with Mrs. On Purpose.

Congrats DOP! Just the other day I was wondering where you were! =)

This isn't your first so I don't really have any advice. However, I have been getting into freezer cooking so I could share some easy recipes with you if you like. You literally throw in some raw meats, veggies and extras in a gallon zip bag and freeze! Then when you need it, you throw it in the crock and dinner is ready. I may message them to you later.

Congrats indeed, and hopefully everyone's transition to having Baby in the outer world has been going smoothly. It was really helpful for our older O. to help in little ways with his new baby sister, so see what tasks you can give to the big kid (handing the wipes to you/Mrs. On Purpose, helping pick an outfit, etc). Making sure that the big kid has an adult spending some time with him was essential too. Once that Baby starts looking around and makes it clear that the sibling is the most interesting thing in the room, life will be easier. Enjoy the ride!

O. other piece of advice. Have a night out with your wife in the next few weeks - I know I know you have a new baby, but still. Have a family member watch the kids for 2 hours and take your wifey out to dinner. Nothing crazy, nothing late at night. Stay local so you aren't worried.
