I was one of the unlucky ones who bled throughout. Everyone told me if I breastfed, no period....not for me. It was a bummer!

Everyone is diferent. My experience - October baby, exclusive breastfeeding, and my period was back in force the very next month. Dr. will be able to give you the best info.

Good luck to you and yours.

I breastfed my youngest for 3.5 years, I know too long, however, another whole story. I had my period every month, never got to experience not having it like some momma's get when they breastfeed.

Just because you're breastfeeding doesn't mean you won't get your period. I breastfed my last one for 22 months but had my period back after 4 months. I would call and ask your doc about the mirena while bleeding, I don't have experience with mirena. If it's excessive bleeding I would put a call in about that also, if it's heavier than period bleeding. Congrats and good luck!

Yes, it's normal. Your cycle is probably adjusting already. I always got my period back immediately when I was breastfeeding. Most of my friends did too.

Make sure that you're using birth control before your 6 week appointment... but let your doctor know NOW that you seem to have your period back because your OB will want you to be dilated in order to put the Mirena in. She may want to move your appointment up. Yes, it's okay to put the Mirena in while you're bleeding.

Some people get their cycles back right away and some do not. I only had no period when I was on the mini pill AND was nursing a lot. When DD tapered off, I had to change pills.

Call the doctor to ask about the Mirena and period.

No problem for the Mirena. I was still bleeding a little at 6 weeks post-partum, and they put the mirena in. I had spotting from the mirena for about 4 months after they put it in. And then, I started getting my cycle every month, but it was (and still is) very short and very light (as in, only a panty liner it's so light). It was different from the first time around, when, like you, I didn't get my period back until the baby weaned, but every pregnancy/postpartum is different I guess.

And, you didn't ask this, but mirena didn't affect my breastfeeding at all. My child nursed for 18 months, no supply issues.
