Conditioner

My 3 year old has beautiful wavy to curly hair and is almost to her waist. We have been using a shampoo plus conditioner at bath time but she still gets a ton of knots in her hair everyday. She is usually pretty good about letting me brush it for her but I am thinking that it is time to try a different product to help eliminate some of those knots. Any suggestions on a conditioner that is not too strong for little heads and not to expensive or hard to find that would help with this problem? I hate to waste money on something that doesn't work.

What can I do next?

Hey C.!
I use a spray detangler on Kierra. The one at wal-mart is 1.00 if you get the equate brand (compare to Johnson's) I've tried all of them and this one works the best!I also like Garnier products,I use them and have used them on her.And they have a leave in conditioner.Take care...

My daughter is 4 and we use "Johnson's Buddies Easy Comb Conditioner". It is in a an orange container with the flip top on the bottom. It is not a leave in conditioner...you rinse it out, which I prefer. We love it and I think it is about $2.79 for 8 ounces which lasts us a couple months. It is really worth it. Good luck!

I like the infusium leave in conditioner. It's light, takes out tangles and won't make her hair too greasy.

I use Sunsilk anti frizz shampoo, conditioner, and product on my 3 year old. (it is in green bottles) I comb out her tangles while the conditioner is in her hair in the bathtub. I don't think anything will completely take the tangles from our waist length, curly hair but the Sunsilk product line has really helped. It is available pretty much everywhere - Wal-mart, Target, Price Chopper...

Try the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. You can get it at Walmart and it is not very expensive. My sister uses it on my neice and it works wonders!

My daughter is almost 8 and she grows her hair out to her waist too. We have donated her hair twice to Locks of Love and each time she grows it again until she can cut it. I struggle with knots and struggle with knots. If I use a shampoo with conditioner her hair gets too oily so I have found those detaingler sprays work wonders! I will use it right after a bath or even if we comb dry hair I will spray her hair with water a little bit first, then the spray in detaingler. As long as I start at bottom and work up all is well! Try it and see if this works for you.

Infusium is great! It's a really light leave in conditioner and works wonders on my thick course hair. I like it better than any proffessional leave in conditioner I've used. You can get it at walmart and it's pretty cheap for a big bottle.

I have girls with super curly hair....it gets into dread-lock type hair if I dont stay on top of it. One product I used was "the Sleek Look" by matrix, but I was spending $15.00 on a bottle of conditioner (it really did the job though), I dont spend that much on my hair, so I looked and Suave makes a similar product it is called the smooth look or something like that. It is in an orange bottle and it costs around $1.50, I have been super happy with it and feel it is comprable to the matrix. hope this helps

We use the kids' conditioner that is found at Beauty Brands. They have a whole section of kids stuff. It's melon scented and doesn't hurt their eyes and doesn't have to be washed out (we rinse just a bit, but not much). It's great! Best of luck, as we have the same problem!

Hi C.,

I have curly hair... when I was a little one, it was long REALLY LONG and wavy. My mom used Suave on my hair. The conditioner is awesome, in fact I still use the shampoo and conditioner. I also would recommend No More Tears.

Good luck

I would also suggest when brushing her hair out, start at the bottom and move upwards. :)

Hi C.,

As a hairdresser, I have a couple of hints for you. First the two in one shampoo and conditioner is not the best when tangling is anissue. Next I would try two different things. First, after putting conditioner on, don't rinse it out all of the way, leave enough in that you can still feel it a little bit. And second, as another person wrote, Infusium is great. I use it in my water bottles at my work station, I put half of the infusium to half water so it doesn't feel sticky. And it is a decent price you can by it at wal-mart.

We use a product called Equate Hair Detangler from Wal-mart on our six year old granddaughter's long hair. It's an inexpensive spray-on and works well. I think Johnson & Johnson has a more expensive spray-on detangler, but this one works fine. We've used this for several years and it's never bothered her.
