Commemorating Newborn Hand/footprints

Our first baby is due in about 2 weeks and on the hospital tour they said we could bring in a few things for the nurses to make the first handprints and footprints. Any creative ideas on ways to commemorate this? We have a baby book, which I will bring, but I would love tips on simple, effective ways to capture this moment. For example; the nurse mentioned one dad brought in a white baseball cap. That's not our thing but perhaps a good quality paper from a craft store so I can frame them later? Thoughts?

What hospital are you delivering at? St. Luke's would only do footprints...they said handprints are too hard. :(

For our first baby they put his footprints on the paper gown that my husband was wearing. But for the next two - they never made my husband get into a paper gown- so I don't even know if that is something that would be an option.
Some nice craft paper is a good idea if you want to frame them. Or if you are huge college/football/baseball fans then possibly a T-shirt which could be framed.
Good luck.

Another possibility, in addition to the wonderful suggestions you've already gotten, is to have the nurses put the footprints on to plain paper, scan it into your computer, then put it on iron-on transfer paper and iron it onto whatever piece of clothing you want. When you get home you can do footprints and handprints into plaster that you can then do at later dates as well to see growth.

Enjoy your new baby.

We had the white undershirt that my husband was wearing stamped. I haven't yet figured out if I want to frame it or cut it out and put it in the scrapbook! But the picture of my husband smiling looking down as they stamped the shirt (while he was wearing it) is one of my favorites!!

We have a delightful little ceramics store in Pflugerville. I can't remember the name offhand, but they have adorable ceramic plaques with baby hand and footprints. You might want to consider something like a ceramic, or even wooden plaque. You can find nice wood plaques at Hobby Lobby, and if you do a google search, I'm sure you could find a ceramics store in your area.

I just took in some nice scrapbooking paper, and the staff made prints on that for me. Maybe a onesie, and you could put it in a shadowbox?

what about a ceramic (non glazed/glossy ) piggy bank. you can buy them from art stores. after the prints are on use a fine tip sharpie (or thick if you wish) put all her info on there , name, date, place, weight, height. and you can use any color of sharpie. then coat the bank with a clear spray ... get hubby to do this or someone else ...fumes. then you can have a keep sake forever!

I used a casting kit that can be purchased at any craft store. It's a jell that starts off soft and hardens like jello jigglers. When you slip the gel off you then fill it with plaster of paris (included in kit). I did a few a hand and a foot painted them with bronze paint, clear coated them and gave a hand to one grammy and the foot to the other. I wrote a quote on the bottom with birth stats. They loved them. I also did a set for my keeping.
Here is a website I use to make gifts for my grandaughter (18months) to give to her mommy for mothers day. We have fun getting messy. I buy a large bucket of plaster of paris from the craft store. I used a disposible pie pan for the form, painted it and decorated it. I just hot glued a cute ribbon hanger with a bow to the back. My daughter hung it in her kitchen.
