Yikes! I know what you are going through. My son had colic until he was 15 weeks old and I thought I was never going to get through it. The one thing that helped him was the sound of the vacuum cleaner. I thought I was going to run the motor out on the vacuum, so I even bought a CD that played that sound continuously for 1 hour and I used to have to play it on repeat all night to get him to sleep.
Being in the bathroom with the door shut while a hot shower was running sometimes worked (the steam calmed him). He also liked being tightly swaddled and rocked while I whispered "shhh" into his ear.
Good luck and know that even though it's hard to believe now, this too shall pass!
Hi L.,
My name is T. and I had a colicky baby too. I used to swaddle him tightly (not too tightly) in a recieving blanket and just hold him.
Are you breastfeeding or formula feeding??
If you are formula feeding there is a formula out there that is for colic babies - it is a formula that has all the nutrients broken down, I can not remember the name of the formula but your doctor might.
Another idea is infant massage. Have you ever heard of this?? If not, there may be some information on the internet. If you live in the Cottonwood or surrounding area there is an infant massage class held at the healing arts center in Old town at 10:30 am every Thursday.
I hope that this helps. :) Good luck - patients and love is most important.

Hi L.,
Its been awhile since I had my babies, the youngest is 15! However, I do remember that the pediatrician said to always feed the baby in a more upright position so that they don't get too much air while eating. Also, I would gently rock my little one on top of my knees while I was sitting, having him tummy side down, and gently pat him and move my hand in circular movements softly on his lower back. That seemed to soothe him.
I hope for the best...
Cath
If he is on formula, there is a Similac formula a friend of mine tried that also helped a lot. previous posts are also great ideas. Babycenter.com also has useful boards that you can post on for advice if you haven't already been there. Good luck!
use bottles that have disposable liners and sqeeze out the air before you feed. warm towels on the tumm. chammomille tea, tummy time after feeding. burp well dont give up after the first burp
My son also ended up having reflux when we thought it was colic- look it up online. Either way check out Dr. Sears web page- it talks a lot about colic and fussy babies in general. I know it is hard-- hang in there and remind yourself that this is temporary, it will get better!
I use Gripe Water. It works wonders. My mom used it on me when I was a baby. You can find it at Frys.
My son had colic-type stuff too... it's sooo hard! I wore him around in a sling a lot (still do) so that he could be upright and have his tummy to mine. That made such a huge difference. You can also use mylicon drops, which help a lot. Rub his tummy from the bottom right by his hip to up under his rib cage, down to around to the left. This will help relieve gas. Infant massage is really good for this too. Try to minimize his crying too, as this makes everything worse. Also, you can lay him back-side up on your chest and gently pump his legs to release gas. You can cycle his legs too. Good luck!
gripe water, the shower (standing in the bathroom while it runs), rubbing his belly in circles, rocking him in different ways (ie- mine ONLY settled down if you rocked him while you stood up with a slow song cd playing- all 4 one actually ha ha- doc said it was something about the position you are in then), the swing was our best friend. Good luck!
Two thoughts. Watch the video "Happiest Baby on the Block". Cured our son's colic in 10 minutes for good.
2nd thought. We later found out, due to serious health problems, our son's colic was caused by reflux. Worth checking out before the problems start. Dr. Kraviec at National Jewish has been TERRIFIC! We love her!
Good luck. We know how tough it is.

Hi L.. I bought this stuff called Colic Calm on-line. It is gripe water with all natural ingredients including peppermint. I've been told by my mother and my mother-in-law who were told by their mothers that peppermint is excellent in relieving an upset stomach. I eat peppermint Altoids when my stomach is upset, and they help!! Anyway...go to www.coliccalm.com and read up on this liquid formula. I thought it worked really well for my son. I even bought two bottles of it. I remember it being a little expensive like around 30 dollars, but it was totally worth it. I purchased the NumiMed dispenser which is like a pacifier. The pacifier measures out the correct dose. It even tastes good...I tried it! FYI: It does turn their tongues purple. Hope this helps!
Hi L.-
Looks like you have gotten lots of great advice. I was thinking along the lines of Swaddling, rocking and shushing that you can read about in Happiest Baby on the Block. The nurses at the hospital do it for a reason too. Your little guy was very happy and content all warm and cozy while you were pregnant with him. So try to mimic that environment. We did it with our daughter for a couple months. I would also definitely check with your doc to make sure it is not reflux. Just to be sure.
I used a herbal baby magic tea to soothe my baby and got good results. It's safe and healthy.
Hi L.
Lay him on your lap, tummy side down and rub his back. When you want him to sleep, play a lulaby tape, relaxation tape or just a "white noise" like a fan.
