Oh dear. This past weekend I tripped getting out of our car and made a spectacle of myself hopping on one foot before almost taking a nosedive to the ground. Two days ago I burned my hand taking a pan out of a hot oven. Yesterday, I spilled coffee on myself TWICE; once in the morning before work and had to change, and again when I got to work. Not a couple of drops either, I mean in my purse, on my lunch, my shoes, and the ground. I almost burst into tears on the spot. Now this morning, I stubbed my toe so hard on a dining room chair, I am surprised I didn't just whack it clean off!
What's wrong with me, you ask?? I am pregnant!! And it seems that I am so clumsy during this first trimester! I am usually careful (dare I say graceful?), but I am in awe of how clumsy I have been. I'm incredibly tired and fatigued too, so that may be contributing, even though I kind of laugh at myself for it all. But PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one to experience this!
.
Nope, I tripped up the stairs in my first trimester. I twisted so I wouldn't land on my belly and cracked my hand agains the wall in the process. Broke it, and had to wear a brace for six weeks. But, then again, I am a huge klutz to begin with!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Yes - your center of gravity is different - there are sooo many changes going on inside your body - it's AMAZING!!!!
Being tired and such - really does have an impact on our motor skills!! do what you can about getting plenty of rest and fluids!!
You are DEFINITELY not the only one... and it will only get worse! lol. Your body is changing it's center of gravity, and it will take you a while to adjust to it. Not only that, but you also retain more water and swell up. The minute little changes that make you drop your car keys 5 times in a row, while hubby just stands there and laughs. (grr. lol.) Wait until you get the forgetfulness! Then you can drop the car keys after digging them out of the freezer. (I still don't know how they ended up in there...) I used to throw their change at my customers all the time because I just couldn't keep a grip on it. They always just saw my belly and laughed it off with me. :P
The best part is when you get really big, and drop something. You just stand there looking at it, thinking 'is it really worth trying to pick up?' My hubby used to come home to silverware, books, random clothes on the floor because it just wasn't worth the squat/lunge/stand hassle to try to pick it up. :P
I wiped out at the top of the church stairs (second floor) so loudly that someone came running up from the basement to see what fell (first trimester--walking quickly upstairs, not running) and I fell face-first at work a few times walking UP the stairs. You are not the only one--it is really normal to be clumsier when you're pregnant. Your body is off, center of gravity shifting, weight changing, hormones changing, blood volume, etc. Nothing is normal. :) Just try to keep yourself safe and laugh it off.
I was so ungraceful while pregoo I fell down the stairs with all 3 during my last few months of pregnancy,I dropped & broke many of our glasses, plates, mugs.Stubbing toes, walking on things that are on the floor that I didn't see,my foot still hurts where I stepped on a Lego this was months along time ago in the exact same spot I don't know it could be nerve damage I guess need to get it looked at.But it is all apart of pregnancy, tiredness,in the land of day dreaming, just wait till baby arrives then you'll have another excuse baby drain brain
oh you are not alone everyone turns into a total clod when you get pregnant- as you get bigger you get clumsier, and more forgetful the baby takes half your brain. And first trimester pregnant is the most exhausted I have ever been in my life I still remember it clearly and my youngest is 8. You will get over the tired but not the clumsy so much as you get bigger you need to be more careful.
Ha! This was how I KNEW I was pregnant! I couldn't keep anything in my hands, off my shirt or committed to memory! And I peed a lot! Lo and behold, two weeks later my pg test was positive.
You poor thing! Keep laughing at yourself......it gets better! LOL!
My funniest "clumsy pregnancy" story. I was pregnant with my first. We had a downstairs sliding glass door that we kept a stick in the track to make it more secure. I wanted nothing more than to open that sliding door for some fresh air. No matter how hard I tried I could not get a hold of that stick to take it out. Between the belly and it being hard to even reach it my hands were so clumsy I couldn't grasp it. Finally (after laughing at me a good deal) my husband and friend that was visiting took pity on me and came and opened it up for me. At the time it was a little less then funny but it is really funny now. I was always tripping on my own feet with all of my kids. All those hormones make everything all loose and puts you off balance. It will go away after you have your little one :)
Congratulations!
Nope, not the only one experiencing it. I am 35 1/2 weeks along with my 4th and I was and have been clumsy with each one. To say it's frustrating is truly an understatement. I pick things up and they just slip past my fingers. I cannot see below my belly but somehow I manage to trip on just about everything in front of me, even when I can see them coming up in a distance. I have not fallen but have come close too many times. It's pregnancy hormones loosening everything up and that includes every part of our bodies (not just the important ones for giving birth). Hang in there....and try to be more careful. ; )
Nope, you are not the only one. I am clumsier while pregnant and also a horrible driver. With my son, I hit a parked car twice. In the 13 weeks of this pregnancy I have already misjudged distance between me and the curb and an ATM machine and scraped my car doors twice. Our balance and sense of space relation must be off.
Yep.
Tis' pregnancy.
My Husband always said, I was NEVER clumsy, until I got pregnant.
I could run in heels and do an obstacle course in them. Real agile.
But no more.
Once pregnant.
I had never worn flat shoes before, until I was pregnant.
Just be careful.
LOL. Unfortunately, clumsiness during pregnancy happens to the best of us! I worked as a barista at a coffee shop while preggo and it was a disaster!! I ruined SO much clothing from spilling coffee/syrup/ect on my belly. I would knock over drinks daily. I even tripped in front of a whole line of cars in the drive through, not once but twice! AWFUL! All I can say is keep a sense of humor, and know it doesn't last forever! : )
yeah i know the feeling, my other half called me clumsy the bear when i was pregnant, sure beats being called shamu.
pregnancy doesnt last forever, it just feels that way
K. h.
Well, I hope your toe is feeling better! No, you are not the only one and it doesn't necessarily get better throughout the pregnancy. I think it's your body telling you to slow down and let yourself glow!
Sad to say clumsy before and clumsier while pregnant and I am STILL clumsy.. It is so unfortunate.
I should have named our daughter Grace.. She is also balance impaired..
I was the same way-it was like "I Love Lucy" everyday-one calamity after the other-slow down, get more rest-maybe it's time to give up coffee? Take care!
My husband wouldn't allow me to handle any type of glass objects, after dropping several. I felt like a child, only allowed to drink out of plastic cups. I was constantly tripping , also.
I was horribly clumsy while pregnant! And forgetful. Now that my second is 3 months old, the clumsiness is gone... the forgetfulness is not! Mommy brain is a really thing.
Pregnancy brain! Attention is focused elsewhere--head in the clouds, so to speak...
THEN, you get REALLY clumsy as your center of gravity shifts.
Yep. Late in my second trimester, my boyfriend and I were walking down the stairs that the theater (When it was still pitch black). I walked ahead of him, and just as the lights came on I tripped down the last 3 steps. Luckily, I caught hold of the rail before I fell. Everyone just gasped. I was so embarrassed, I put my hood up and practically ran to my car... Then I had to go back to get my purse (My pregnancy brain forgot it) because my boyfriend was laughing to hard to move. He still insists on walking down the stairs in front of me, just in case. Lol!
