My son has been cloth diapered since he was 2. He only uses them at night he still wets the bed and I don’t think he will stop anytime soon, my hubby was 6 when he did. He is now 4 and weights 41 lbs. we have always used a combination of bumGenius one size pocket diapers and Fuzzi Bunz size large pocket diapers. Well they are to small and so even though I can get them on him they leak almost like he wasn’t even wearing a diaper. What do I do. I cant seem to find anything that will fit him. I hate to have to go back to disposables. he is in a pull up right now (and I feel insanely guilty especially when I go to throw the things away I cant believe I’m throwing away a whole diaper) if anyone knows of a company that sells covers that run big or something like that. Also I can sew some and I have a sewing machine so I thought about making some of my own but I don’t really know how to make the pattern and I would want it to last a wile. I don’t want to do all that work and him outgrow it in 6 months and have to start from scratch. I like the style of the Imse Vimse covers it seems like they would be highly adjustable because of the large area to attach the Velcro to but I don’t know how I would make that. So if you know of any good cover or pocket diaper patterns please point me In that direction.
Yes he is potty trained during the day but he does still have accidents. I went about 6 months of changing his sheets every morning bc he wet the bed and I figured like some ppl said if I put a diaper on him he would just think it was ok but it was still every night and have tried it for a month or two here and there. He wets between 2 and 5 am about 5 nights a week. The issue with the diaper isn’t the stuffing It is the rise there just isn’t enough material up front to absorb. Also I cant get them tight around his waist because of the issue with the rise so it just runs out the top. The issue with leaks just started being an issue after his latest growth spurt. He has never had a single leak before this. He is not a heavy wetter.

My neices son is autistic and before they got him potty trained he was quite old. His grandmother made diaper covers out of heavy plastic. But if you leave them on to long they will cause a rash.
Snap Ez makes a stuffable trainer that was huge on my 36 pound 3 year old. And Fuzzi Bunz makes an extra large. You would have to check out the sizing for both to see if they would fit his measurements. Antsy Pants makes a pull-up type that goes to pretty big sizes:

You might also want to include some night training to your routine. Just because your husband stopped on the later end of the spectrum doesn't necessarily mean that your son will too. We have our son pee before bath, after bath and right before he goes to sleep. We were also taking him to the bathroom right before we went to bed a few hours later and it made a big difference in his ability to stay dry at night. We keep/have the lights off except for the nightlights so it doesn't wake him too much. Took a while for his body to get used to it but now I don't have to take him before we go to bed. He'll be five very soon (too soon for mommy!)
Maybe its time to start getting him up a couple of times during the night to go to the bathroom.
Also, try to make sure you cut back on the liquids as you get close to bedtime.
Hi, A.. Hon, I think that 4 years of putting up with cloth diapers day in and day out, has earned you the right to "waste" a pull-up on your son once a day, at night. You are not going to be able to find a cloth diaper big enough for a 4-year-old, and nothing you can sew together is going to contain all his urine for an entire night.
One per day, at night, is not a huge dent in the environment. Also, in case he does learn how to wake up in the night to go to the bathroom, you want him to be able to pull the thing down and go to the bathroom...so I really do think that a pull up or similar thing is the right way to go.

Is he potty trained during the day?? My sons are 4 and 3 and they occassionally have accidents. We can't afford for them to wear pull-ups and, to me, it seems like we would just be telling them it's OK to pee at night. So, we take them potty before we go to bed, in the middle of the night and sometimes when my husband gets up. It works. Also they aren't allowed liquids before bed.
Also, we did have a "Big Boy Chart" and one of the ways they could get a sticker was by not peeing in bed. Now, they've realized money is worth more than stickers so we give them an allowance each week based on chores and they can get a quarter everyday for making their beds in the morning, and if they've peed in bed, they can't make their bed. My 4 yr old mentions that every morning, so I know that's helping him.

BabyWorks.com sells cloth diapers meant for big kids for overnight. They really work beautifully to hold all the overnight urine. Make sure you wash them according to directions though, and dry them out thoroughly.
I used them for my 3 year old and have bought most of my covers from them for my 6 month old.
I don't have an immediate answer for you, but I'd check out www.ClothDiaperNation.com - there are a ton of ladies there with a wealth of cloth diaper knowledge, as well as WAHM diaper makers who might be able to do customs for you! :)
I had the same issue when my daughter got older and wet heavy at night (now 4.5). I use Fuzzi Bunz and some other pockets but the key is the stuffer... You need more absorbant stuffers for overnight. I bought some super soakers, some bamboo ones and some hemp ones and resolved the problem. They are super thin and absorb amazingly well. You can double them as needed as well. They are more pricey and need to be washed about 5 times to prep them for use, but then they absorb a lot. The other thing you may consider is a pair of plastic pants to completely cover the cloth diaper.... I'm sure if kids sizes aren't working that there must be an adult small or a big kid size you could find online.
In the meantime, Seventh Generation makes chlorine free pull-up style training pants that are slightly better for the environment as far as throwing it in the trash every day...I think Toys R Us sells them and Amazon.com. but I still think you will be better off once you get some better night time super soaker insert stuffers! I got all of my diapers used from Diaperswappers and was really happy. We have always had leakage problems until we went with a combination of a regular diaper like bumgenius and a wool cover. You definitely need more stuffer though, try some different things and you can also try prefolds, they worked the best for me as you can really adjust them as needed and they are super cheap. But don't get the walmart ones, they are horrible. Good luck.
