Hi Moms. I have gone through all the preliminary testing for fertility problems, and everything has turned up fine - blood tests, ultrasound (for fibroids), and the ink dye test for the tubes. The next step is to try clomid. Just what are your experiences with it? Did it make you very moody? I have one beautiful 4 year old son for whom I am so thankful, and am not sure how far I want to go with the fertility treatments. We've been trying for a year now, and I'm trying to be patient but it's hard!
I took clomid for unexplained infertility, and it was accompanied with IUI. I did it for 2 cycles, and got pregnant my 2nd cycle. It definitely made me more hormonal/emotional, and I didn't like it, but I would do it all over again as I wouldn't have my daughter if I didn't take it. It was totally worth it. Best of luck!!
I'm a really normal even keeled person, and Clomid made me lose my mind. I only took it for the "clomid challenge" to see how my body responded, and it was awful. I know I'm not the only one, and I'm sure it affects everyone differently. As long as your family (and friends, co workers etc) know you're on it for a (hopefully) short period of time, you might be OK. It may totally be worth it for you and your family, just be prepared for the side effects.
Have you tried acupuncture? It can be very complimentary alongside other treatments...
I took clomid and it gave me cysts on my ovaries. Make sure if you do it for more than one month they do an ultrasound in between each cycle to check for cysts. I went to Mayo clinic and they didn't do the ultrasound. Finally by the 3rd cycle the doctor asked me if I had one. I told him no- he did one and saw a large cyst. Of course the procedure didn't work (I was doing IUI). I switched to another fertility doctor and ended up on birth control pills (ironic) for 3 months to get rid of the cyst.
I took Clomid for one cycle and conceived that first try. I did not notice any side effects, but I was on the lowest dose possible, so I don't know if that made a difference. Good luck!
I only took it for 2 or 3 months. It gave me headaches and hot flashes, but it wasn't anything horrible. I didn't have any problems with moods. It did what it was meant to (I had more follicles) but I didn' t get pregnant on it. I stopped it because I wanted to take a natural approach first as I felt my RE had a one-size-fits-all list of to-dos and I didn't think it would work for me.
I took it due to PCOS. I don't think I was extra moody on it. The thing I remember is with every dosage increase I got worse hot flashes. It never worked for me but in the end I had 2 beautiful boys now almost 4yr and almost 4mo without intervention :) Good luck!
Hi. I am sorry to hear you are experiencing Secondary Infertility (you already have a child). You don't have to decide right now how far down the road of treatment you want to go. You may want to just focus on the treatment option that is right in front of you. You can make decisions as you go along. Hopefully the Clomid will be as far as you have to go. You may experience some moodiness on Clomid, as with any fertility drug, but it isn't anything that would out weigh giving it a try. If you have been trying for a year then it really is time to move to the next step. Best of luck with this journey!
I took clomid for one round and got pregnant. Shes 28 now. I didnt notice any mood changes, or any other symptoms.
I took Clomid for both of my daughters because I do not ovulate on my own. For DD #1, I did 6 rounds before I got pregnant on 150mg. I don't remember having any side effects except some mild headaches. With DD#2 I got pregnant on the second try at 100mg. I don't know if it was because it had only been a few months since I had weened DD#1, but I definitely felt more moody the second time around, getting upset at DH for the smallest things. Luckily he is very patient man. One thing that helped me the second time around to time it better was using the ovulation kits. I ovulate late while on Clomid (around day 17) which is why it took longer to get it right with DD #1. I would test 2x a day from day 10 (morning and late afternoon) until it was positive and then we would try from that day on for a few days (sorry if tmi). I like the digital kits best (less user error) but they are expensive. Btw, my girls are 3 1/2 and 15 months.
I took it for three cycles and did not get pregnant. It made me very moody and I had hot flashes. With every cycle I got more moody. I can't remember the dose I took. I switched to an injectible drug and got pregnant on the first cycle. As you can see everyone's experience is different. Good luck
