My old next door neighbor was/still is a plumber. His advice, take 1/2 straight bleach and fill the bathtub about 1/4 inch deep with water and let sit for 30 mins. once a month. It did help quite a bit and I have 4 kids!
I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for unclogging the bathtub drain. I don't have much confidence in the liquid draino stuff and it seems like I heard that baking soda and vinegar will unclog it. Has anyone done this or have any other suggestions. :)

Hi K.! I have had the same problem when my oldest son decided to do "science experiments" in the bath tub with toilet paper.:0)
I used the toilet bowl cleaner "BAM" It works wonders!
Good luck!

Try Drain-FX. I heard about it on the Gary Sullivan show and it cleared my drains easily & effectively. It turns your faucet into a mini pressure washer...no need for chemicals. I bought it online. Great plumbing tool.
Hi, if it's hair that is causing your clogged bathtub drain, check out www.thedrainclaw.com. Their drain tool will grab hair and pull it out without having to use chemicals.
Hi K., I usually just pour some bleach into the drain and it works!
Yes, I have unplugged my daughters drain/garbage disposer with this combination, when it was in a hopeless looking state. I do not remember the ratio, only that I used vinegar and baking soda. Hot water seems to help.
Yes K., I always use baking soda and vinegar, and it has worked every time. I also clean all my drain about every 3 months the same way.
If you have long hair People in house, you may also take a clothes hanger or something that has a hook on one end and go downinto the drainjust a little bit and pull out all the hair that has caught there. I did this at our sons house and I couldn't believe how much long hair I pulled out. Good luck.

If the drain is clogged with marbles and hotwheel tires there isn't much you can do except call a plumber, but there is a recipe my grandmother used for years that I like a lot.
Combine 1 cup salt, 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup baking soda. Pour this down the drain. Boil 1 quart of water and pour down the drain. It works wonders in the kitchen sink! The other tool that works is a plumbers snake (you can find small ones in the hardware departments of Wal-mart) they look like a foot long metal tube with a pincher on the end that retracts. It is great at getting out, I cringe to say, hair wads...etc. I hope you get unplugged soon!
A good plumber & $60.00 solves the problem FAST!
I use baking soda followed by vinegar. Let that bubble for a while then follow with lots of very hot water.
Pour baking soda down the drain (1/4 cup) then pour about 1-2 cups of white vinegar down over the baking soda. It creates a chemical reaction ( foaming like in science project on how to make a volcano) and may help move the clog along. This may need to be done a few times. It may smell like a pickle factory for a while in there but it is not toxic like the other drain products. I hope this works for you. I do this in my drains every time I change the box of baking soda I use to keep the fridge odor free. It uses it one more time that way. Good luck.
