One cup of bleach per one gallon of warm/hot water. When my children were smaller I would wipe down the toys with this solution and then rinse them very well. I have also put bigger toys to soak in the tub with a bleach solution and then rinse very well.

I think anything that touches a child's mouth should be with a cleaner that is non-toxic. My favoite is one part vinegar and one part water. Vinegar is a mild disinfectant and baking soda also works great to get out stains on countertops and toilets.

I purchased several spray bottles and this is mainly what I use for toys or general cleaning:
1. vinegar/water mix
2. dish soap/water mix
3. simple green/water

I also use Method cleaner which is suppose to be non-toxic (from Target). Vinegar and water mix also works for cleaning bath toys, opposed to bleach which could be dangerous for a child... or anyone I suppose. Seventh generation also sells "natural" products but I'm not sure what all is in the product line.

I think you could also add dish soap to the vinegar/water mix for a general cleaner, but you would have to look online or get a cleaning book from the library for a ratio reference.
I just got the Martha Steware household cleaning book from the library. It's huge, but has tons of cleaning tips and stain chart.

Babies R Us has organic cleaners and they are on sale right now! Otherwise, good old vinegar is great and if you add a dusting of baking soda first, it will get out many stains and that ring around the toilet!

DCFS recommends freshly made bleach water for cleaning/disinfecting, as commercial products are generally too strong on the chemicals. Just a cap of bleach to a full bottle of water.
Also, anything that can goes through the dishwasher. Anything that can goes through the washing machine.

M.,
I have just recently become a representative to a cosmetic and skin care company that sells only natural and organic products. They do sell a household cleaner. I have been using it and feel very comfortable having my child around the areas that I have cleaned with this product. If you check it out you will see that there are no toxic or synthetic chemicals in ANY of the products they make. Please take a minute to check it out if you this sounds like something you may like. They also make great lotions and bath gels that are great for kids because they are alcohol free and, again, all natural. The web site is www.vickiecolon.mionegroup.com.
