Cleaning Shower Glass

My sister-in-law, who owns a house cleaning business swears by using shout spray-in-wash. Spray it on and let it sit for a while then wash it off thoroughly so it doesn't make the bathtub slippery. Then she says to keep it looking great apply rain-x or give it a good coat of clear wax. And the water spots will roll off rather than drying on.

I just saw this post now. I did an internet search on this a couple of weeks ago and lots of people said to use a magic eraser and a bit of dishwashing liquid. I used the scotch brite version of the magic eraser and dishwashing liquid and it worked wonders. I had previously tried Windex, but that didn't help at all. However, maybe it did end up getting some of the scum off and made the pad and dishwashing liquid work really well. I now keep a pad in the shower and do a little wipe down and use a squeegee after showering. You may want to test it first, because some of the people said they scratched their glass, but that didn't happen here.

I use white(distilled) vinegar to get the gunk off the shower doors/stall... works great! An old toothbrush gets in the little corners.

Hard Surface Grimy Cleaner
1 tsp Borax
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 Tblsp vinegar
1 Tblsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp vegetable-based soap (ie Murphy's)
2 C distilled water

Heat some of the water, add the Borax, stir to dissolve; add rest of igredients, stir. Pour into a 16 oz.spray bottle. Spray onto glass, wipe with a microfiber cloth or scrub with a Dobie.

Vinegar works great! It also makes the stainless steel or chrome (whichever it is) around your sink faucet shine like new. :) If you can eat it, you can bet it's earth friendly!

I use shampoo and a washcloth ! It works great and you don't have to worry about the chemicals and how to clean the inside of the glass while standing on the outside of the shower. I take a shower and get it clean at the same time !

I clean houses and have had my share of dirty shower doors- KABOOM. I spray it on and walk away- come back about 10-15 min later and wipe away. I am of the thinking in this business of work smarter not harder. Also a 50/50 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle is the best thing I have ever used on mirrors and glass (once shower doors are clear of soap scum) it works great on your eye glasses also. Leaves no streaks use an old cotton t-shirt for cleaning glass, it works the best.

Comet makes a bathroom cleaner in a spray bottle that says on the front dissloves hard water and soap scum.
You just spray in on the shower and glass let it set 10 to 15 minutes then all you have to do is take a wet rag and wipe it off there is no scrubbing it works great......

someone said bed bath and beyond....but you can get it at walmart. If your shower is that bad..you might need two bottles. but girl....IT IS AWESOME. and put on a mask. will take your breathe away.

We bought this stuff at the Puyallup Fair this year and it really works! My shower doors were cleaner than they had been in a long time. You use it once to clean and then make a solution for spraying on the doors after your shower to maintain. Since we aren't very good about spraying the doors after our shower, we find that we need to reclean the doors every two weeks or so. That is the only pain, we thought the clean would have a little more staying power.

It is from a local company but I couldn't find their site, but the link is to a reseller. This is a safe product around kids/pets, environmentally friendly.

I have been using the same product for 13 years. Basic H2. If you want something that works, no smell, biodegradable, non-toxic and inexpesive, then you are like me. I liked it so much I ended up in a home business with this as one of my products. Let me know if you want info on it. Straight vinegar is great. If that doesn't work, try CLR. I don't know of anything that works better than CLR for hard water.

I have used and found that WD40 works really well on the glass doors. I was so amazed at how good it works. Use lysol tub and tile cleaner for the inside on the walls or floors.

if you go to Bed Bath and Beyond, they have a product called Kaboom!. It's nasty stuff but it really works on the shower door. I usually spray it on, let it sit and then wipe it off. They have a fume-free kind but it's definately not environmentally friendly, but I only use it once in a while. Works great in the whole shower too.

try mrs meyers all purpose cleaning liquid - I like the basil scented one - but also comes in lavender and geranium scents - I have a chemical free cleaning service and have found this to be the only product that works - i reused another spray bottle - I put this in with about 1/4 as much water as the product (i use filtered water to mix my products b/c using tap water that is also hard water will get you nowhere) - but you can use it full strength - and spray on - clean the rest of the bathroom and then spray and scrub it down again - I also use the basic H2 from Shaklee that someone else recommended , but have found the mrs. meyers to work getting off tuff grease in the kitchen and hardwater on the showers - btw you should think of installing a filter on your shower head - sounds like your cleaning could be cut down with that investment - also try switching your products in the shower to more natural ones to alleviate the soap scum - i like dr. bronners - hope this helps
ps. the vinegar is great - but i have found other products as not all my clients appreciate the vinegar scent in their homes.

I'd try vinegar first, then if that doesn't work, CLR has always done the job. It's supposedly environmentally friendly.

Keep your gloves and mask handy, and open a window. I do that with all of the commercial cleaners: the product I'd use: 'Calcium, Lime, Rust" Oh, and the products that are used for glass care between cleanings really do make keeping the glass clean easier, as does using a squeegie to get excess water off of the shower door between uses (then the buildup problem doesn't occur). I got a 8-10 inch wide squeegy at home depot for about 4.99. I keep it in the shower. I also hate cleaning shower doors, so an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! --K.

It's not very earth friendly, but for our shower the only thing that will get the build-up off of the glass is Soft Scrub. I rub it on and let it soak in for 10-15 minutes, then come back and it doesn't take too much scrubbing to get it off. Good luck!

Hi L.. I have heard that if you mix Bon Ami into a paste and put it on the shower doors that it does the trick. After it's all clean I have also heard that if you put just the smallest coat of wax that it helps to deter the problem altogether. Good luck.

I have heard that straight vinegar will cut that glass shower crud.

When I had a house cleaning business, we used Soft Scrub on a sponge and gently, gently cleaned glass showers in a circular motion. It worked great, and we never had a complaint about scratched glass.

Test it out on a corner, just to be safe!

I'm curious to know which one worked for you? I have tried limeaway, but you have to use rubber gloves and a well vented area. Pretty strong but you have to use a scotch green scratcher pad and I'm not sure if that will scratch your glass or not. Let me know what worked for you, if you don't mind. Believe it or not, I read somewhere to try Pam cooking spray. I haven't tried it yet, but if you have some around, you could give it a go!
