me personally , i don't consider any meat eating clean. But If you want to make it 'cleaner" id go with organic white meat and just skip red meat altogether.
I am wanting to start eating more clean. I have somewhat of an idea as to where to start. Once i go thru my flour, sugar, rice, etc. i will switch them to brown rice, whole wheat flour (or some such thing) and get brown rice (which i've been doing). i was wondering if chicken, turkey, fish and some lean red meats were considered eating clean? also what is the best way to start. my husband would not be fully on board with everything and neither will my kids, so i thought of doing things a little at a time. where's the best place to start.?
TIA

Yes, lean meat counts as eating clean.
There's a great book by Tosca Reno called the "Eat Clean Diet" and there's a ton of recipes in there.
You have to decide HOW clean you want to be. She goes to the extreme - making things out of flax seed and what not.
I think the path you're taking will be the easiest. And don't tell DH about the changes your making. I find that if I don't tell my husband what we're eating (other than a vague description), he doesn't notice if it's whole wheat and low fat. :)
You can make things quite tasty, and still eat clean.
A few friends of mine consider "clean eating" to be eating Vegan and living the vegan lifestyle, not just eating vegan but avoiding animal and processed animal byproducts at all costs.
Vegan. Or raw. Look into it. You'll feel better.
It depends on who you talk to as to the definition, but if you want to consume animal flesh, make sure it's organic and grass fed free range if beef; free range, grass fed organic pork; wild seafood that is both sustainable and not farmed; and free range (cage free) naturally fed, organic poultry and eggs. It really makes a huge difference and tastes much better and fresher!
We only eat organic chicken from Whole Foods. Once you taste it, you'll never be able to put other chicken in your mouth again! It has a REAL taste. Start by taking out ALL high fructose corn syrup and anything made with Splenda, Nutrasweet, and all the other fake sugars. The only safe one is Stevia. Take out all artificial colors, flavors and MSG disguised as "natural flavors" Pretty easy way to start is go to Whole FOods and go down the isles and replace your regular products with whole, natural and organic ones. They have tons of great snacks for the kids.
I'd eliminate fake foods like high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated fats and eat real foods. If the kids wants sweets make them from scratch using real butter and sugar. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store.
Depending on your budget, I would go to hormone free beef, antibiotic free chicken, turkey and eggs, and hormone free cheese. All of these things are available at Publix Greenwise. It costs a little more, but is SOOO much better for you and it taste better! Also, my husband saw a difference in my temper and attitude as well as my kids by eating this way and so this got him on board with better eating as he didn't start there either. This way your husband doesn't loose anything in the food department too, but you are still eating better. Also anything organic is helpful, but this gets real pricey. So I would start with the meat, eggs and cheese. Good Luck!
Congratulations on deciding to make healthy habits for you and your family.
I want to tell you that my mother was healed of terminal pancreatic cancer last year through prayer and changing her diet! We threw ourselves into learning about nutrition and we have been eating holistically "clean" for the past 2 years now and we never looked back. First, I would recommend buying "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon. This book will help you understand what food does to your body and organ function and will help guide you.
Second- Simply understand that you have to read the ingredients to everything! And don't eat things that have preservatives, chemicals, or partially modified anything.
Meat is fine, but you should focus on what the animals are fed (corn & soy are not good) so look for grass-fed meats.
There is too much to tell you in 1 post. Read the book and message me if you have more questions. Good luck.
Basically start getting rid of processed foods and sugar laden items. Meats should be the leanest cuts (white meat poultry, sirloin and top round cuts on beef) Preferably organic if you can. Like for instance for dinner you can do like a grilled chicken breast, brown rice, veggies. Just try to keep things in a natural state as possible. Try to avoid butter, condiments with high sugar (ketchup has sugar for instance) Basically the less ingredients the better. Eat Clean Diet is a good resource but she is really extreme, but you can pick up some good pointers. Plus there is a magazine called Clean Eating with recipes that should help!
