Christmas Photo Ideas Needed

We're looking for ideas for locations for our annual family photo. We've run out of options in our house and would like to find someplace interesting here in the Cities. Any ideas? Our photographer is willing to meet us anywhere but I'm at a loss. We'll be having the photo taken at the end of November so an outdoor photo probably won't work due to the weather.

What can I do next?

If you go to where Santa is set up in a mall, it would probably make a great background! I took a picture of a little girl last year while we were waiting in line, and it turned out great with the trees and ornaments and fake snow and fence behind her! You could probably find an area you could fit the family and maybe have your photographer photoshop any areas that show the carpet or parts of the mall so it looks nice. Other than that, I don't have much for ideas!

Piggybacking on Andrea's suggestion - at the Walker's sculpture garden, there is a walk thru greenhouse (I'm sure they have another fancy name for this) that around the holidays fills with poinsettia plants, greenery and white twinkle lights. It makes a beautiful picture, and indoors so it's toasty warm. Plus it smells like a million bucks.

Afterwards, you and your family can visit the art center if you haven't. My husband and I made this a tradition every year for the past 10 years, and now that we have our little guy, plan to continue.

Have fun!

If your looking for a location. I recommend the Peace Gardens at Lake Harriot. It's beautiful and HUGE so there is no lack of places to have the pix taken. Good Luck.

I'm not sure when the Como Conservatory changes their seasonal display, but if they have their poinsettias out, that makes for a very lovely holiday background....and the conservatory is beautiful and only a dollar each to get in. Good luck looking around.

How about Como? They have the flowers in the sunken garden that are really nice for winter... Your photographer might have to pay a small fee to take a professional photo there, but it would be really nice.

Don't discount an outdoor photo, especially if it's snowing. That would be lovely! You could be bundled in your coats, with scarves, on a bench, with the snowy trees in the background. If you are in the south of the river area, you could go to Keller lake, Alimagnet park, Crystal Lake - any of these parks would be great.

Personally, I think a winter outdoor photo would be wonderful! How about the Walker Sculpture Garden? It's free and there are some really fabulous backdrops there. Or, there's the Minnehaha Falls, or do what we did last year and go to a tree farm when the Christmas trees come out!

The Arboretum (in their green house), Como Conservatory, Minnesota Zoo, or one of the indoor parks (Edinborough in Edina or Central Park in Woodbury) would look like an outside environment. Also, one of the places our city is know for like Mall of America, the Dome or a train station might be neat. If you wait until the day after TG, you could do it downtown in front of some lights or with Santa at one of the Malls. I think the Santa at MOA is quite good (real beard and everything!). Another neat spot might be the Art Institute (though I'm not sure about their policy on pictures). Also, the Children's Museum or Science Museum might have some interesting palces for a photo (with a mummy or dinosaur!).
