Christmas Gifts from the 1 Yr Old to Others

Hi! I tried to do a few searches of old questions for this topic and did not have much luck. My question is about what is a good gift from our 1 yr old to family and friends? My nieces and nephews would make us something while in school. But cannot remember what they did before then. Does one just add the childs name to the "main" gift? Or do you buy something little from the baby to aunts, uncles, friends? what does your family do?

What can I do next?

We have a ten month old and I have been doing handprint and footprint painting with him for gifts. I have done some on canvas and am thinking about doing pot holders as well. If you Google handprint, footprint or fingerprint art you should find some great ideas.

I did a calendar of pictures of her for the upcoming year. The pictures were of her in that same "month" but the year before. You can do the pocket size or a larger wall -whatever you think they'd use.

I did that until she was like 4 and then she was able to sort of pick out (with reasonable results) actual gifts for people.

Hi,

We do both. For our household, I have a special small gift from baby to daddy and sister. For grandparents and aunts/uncles, I sometimes go either way, depending on if we have a "special" gift that makes sense to be from kiddo. Framed picture of kiddo? World's best grandma mug? From kiddo only. Otherwise, I just add her name to the family gift. Make it easy on yourself.

At age 2, I let my older one start helping to choose gifts (Should we give Daddy the red Metallica CD or the blue one?). At age 3, she was able to think of a gift idea herself, and I was able to figure out how to find what she wanted.

Have fun!

Our 1 year old will be included in gifts from our family. He will only be giving gifts just from him to his godparents.

I basically attatch their name to the gift. My daughter is 4 and my son is 2 and this is really the first year we decided to have a "kid" gift to grandmas. They painted some pottery, which was great for the older one and quite a mess for the younger, but they did have fun! It was sort of a last minute decision on my part and although I think it will be cute, I also wondered if I've started a trend that I can now not get myself out of! ;) Anything that your 1 y/o makes is really going to be mostly made by you, so I'd skip it.

We attach the kids names to our gift for extended family. Each child gives the other child a gift from themself. The kids each or together (depends on what they want to do) give a gift to mom and one to dad. That is all they do for themselves. We just don't have the finances to give gifts from each of us to all other family members.

my favorite ever that I got was my nephew colored on a piece of paper that was bookmark sized, then the mom put a picture of the child and wrote the name and year and laminated it. Quick and easy, but I used that bookmark for 15 yrs so far!

Our boy is 14 months. He won't be giving any x-mas gifts this year.

If you want to do something from baby, consider doing a handprint santa card. Dip baby's hand in white tempra paint, stamp on green paper. Baby's handprint (upsidedown) is santa's beard, draw in a face and paste a red hat.

Baby can also do a handprint reindeer. Use brown paint. the thumb is the head and neck, the four fingers the reindeer's legs. draw on a face, antlers and if you are making rudolph, a red nose.

Laminated these could be bookmarks, or they could be cut out as ornaments.

Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.

We always added the kids names to the gifts we gave. They do buy gifts for their godparents. Well they didn't, we did.
