There are products out there that are designed for special needs children that you might find useful. One is child safety temporary tattoos. They tattoo your contact information right on the child. Another idea is to use shoelace child safety IDs. (http://www.kidsbmv.com/merch_details.asp?ProductID=1005-1) They can be used with velcro shoes too. You can also use ID tags on a lanyard. Try googling for child safety ID.

There is a website that sells IDs and you can personalize it. They are not really expensive either. www.n-styleID.com I bought my son aedical wristband from them. They have some really cute lanyards and other stuff. You can also just order the tag.

I know a jewelry/bead place in the southwestern suburbs (Blue Fire Beads & Jewelry, New Lenox, IL look up their web-site) They do lovely work. There is also a great Farmer's market in Joliet, on Friday mornings. There are a few jewelry booths that can custom make items like that. Hope this helps.

I am looking for this too and something that my son cant get off. He has Autism so I really think this is important. He is an escape artist and we have called him baby houdini since he was about 2, but it has only gotten worse. he got away at church and nobody could find him last Sunday. He was gone for 10 min and I was so scared and so were my husband and kids. He was just in the other house behind the church they use for kids world for the older kids, and playing with the doors. He loves doors.

I ordered tattoes from safetynet.com (i think) that you put on the child. Before I found those, we went to disney and put my number on the back of a button and had my son wear it at all times.

There are child tattoos, that can be washed off. I think they last about a day. You can surely buy the "tattoo" paper from a place that sells inkjet paper. I bought them at walmart, but that was some time ago.

Also, you can look on etsy for id tags, etc. There are lots of personalized things there.
