Cheap Movers

We are moving this Friday and I am REALLY pregnant, due anyday! :)
I would love to surprise my husband with some movers but everyone I call is giving me a large quote. We are only moving 12 miles from here. Does anyone know any private movers that charge by the hour?

What can I do next?

Hi J.! This is C. on the MOM team! Just saw your post, and my friend used a mover in Plano they raved about that was not much. I will get that info. to you later today when I hear back from them. They also said they did an excellent job and were fast.

Hey, I work in property management and I refer out several movers all the time. They can be quite expensive, but I do know of some that are probably the best priced.

The Zone is probably the cheapest. Talk to Robert Kirksey at ###-###-####. Tell him that A. at Oak Tree Condos sent you! Or, there is also Oasis Movers at ###-###-####, you can tell them that I sent you too! :)
Good luck with both the move and the baby!

Hi J.,

I am due on Friday and cannot imaging moving during this time...you are brave!

You might want to try Two Men & a Truck. They have moved my husband and I a few times and did an excellent job for a reasonable price. The only phone number I found for them online was ###-###-####...hope this is the right one.

Best of Luck to you!

Depending on the location, you could call your local fire station. I've heard that the off duty firemen have a moving service. They probably wouldn't be as expensive as a company. Be careful to protect your expensive items. They may not offer you insurance in case of damage.

I can't give you any specific names, but one way to save money is to rent your own moving truck (Ryder, UHaul, Budget, etc.) and just call the companies and ask for hourly quotes for guys to load and unload your truck. I've found this is almost always cheaper than paying for their travel and fuel surcharges and use of their truck. That way, all your husband would have to do is drive the truck to the new place. I have even used two different services for loading/unloading (one team that is close to each end) to avoid trip charges. You just have to run the numbers, but it's worth a shot. Your rates for just the labor are usually going to be much more reasonable than paying for the truck as well.

I am not aware of any moving companies other than the big ones, which I am sure you have already called. But I have lived in Prosper for 16 years so if you ever have any questions let me know.

When we moved we used accent movers. They ruined all of our stuff. So I can tell you a bad mover! I know that people have had good luck using off duty firemen to move their stuff. I dont know the name of their company but you could probably call a fire station to find out.
