Champagne Going from Fridge to Pantry, Safe?

Hi Moms,

I have 7 unopened bottles of champagne left over from Easter. They are all in my fridge and taking up to much room. Is it safe to have them go from cool to room temperature? Or will they go bad?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice, girls :) :)

We initially bought 18 bottles of champagne (for mimosas). We had a neighborhood party Saturday and a family party on Easter Sunday. We went through 11 bottles, but 7 remain. Just so everyone doesn't think my house is a bunch of alcoholics, lol..

Depending on the relationship you have with the liquor store you bought them at, they may accept them for a refund. My local store has.

Key to this question is whether the bottles have been opened or not.

If you had a large gala event @ Easter, I can imagine a few of them were opened! (& if so, invite me next year!!)

If unopened, there is no problem to bringing them out, & storing them in a cool, dry place on their side, like any other bottled beverage. (note: not all champagnes last forever, check with the manager of your local liquor store about the length of time before needing to use them, or lose them)

If opened, chances are they will go flat & then eventually "off" in taste. In that case, think of how you might be able to use them - Mimosa's for a group of girls this weekend, perhaps.

Happy drinking!! T.

Spoil as in become unsafe to drink? No.
Go flat? Possibly.
Why not just drink them up?

Champagne can go in long enough to be chilled before serving but it shouldn't be stored there. They could already have gone a touch sour from prolonged exposure to extreme cold, but you won't know until you try one.

I suggest you find a use for them ASAP. Have another mimosa party. The OJ will sweeten up any mildly stale flavor. It isn't unsafe to drink.

Champagne should not be stored in a refrigerator. It does NOT get better with age. Champagne can get flat.

It must be stored in a place that is cool and dry...and on its side. When you are ready to use it? Stick it in a bucket of ice for a few hours...most champagnes (non-vintage, i.e. cheap) will keep for 3 to 4 years, if store properly.

good luck!!

It won't go bad-as in spoil and make you ill-but it will go bad-as in how beer skunks if you let cold beer go back to room temp and rechill it. I say enjoy your champagne now, because trying to save it in the pantry now will only result in yucky tasting champagne later.

Unsafe, no. Ruined, yes. You don't take champagne out of the fridge and put it in the pantry. Sorry. You already made the mistake of getting them all cold. Best to just drink them now...
