Cat Urine Oder and Carpet Stains

This happened to me when i house sat a cat, it was terrible! My mom told me to use white vinegar! It totally worked and it does not leave a vinegar smell after it is dry! I use it for everything now!

If that has not worked, throw the car[et out and get new. Get to the base flooring as soon as you can and clean that first. I have seen it eat through wood floors. Good luck, lots of baking powder and vinegar.

I love cats and i love clean carpets and the best solution for that is Tide the laundry detergent you could even remove coffe o wine with that .

Put White Vinager in the water, after a couple of days the vinagar smell will disapate, and so will the cat urine.

The 99 cent store has a product called "Awesome" that I've used for this problem and I've had surprisingly refreshing results! It's an eco-friendly product and contains no bleach.

Give it a go ... the price is right!

Natures Miracle dod not work for us. I use "Anti Icky Poo" from Pet People. It is a terrible name but works really well! My cate is not peeing anymore but when he was, it was the only thing that worked. It also works to prevent them from peeing. Just spray it on the area where they pee and it worked to get him to stop!

Have you tried Nature's Miracle? My mother-in-law has always had a lot of pets and her house is always immaculate and smells great. She swears by the stuff.

Cat urine is a difficult smell to remove from carpet, as you know. Try sprinkling some baking soda on it and just let it set. Also Scentsy makes an odor nutralizer spray, and it works well. www.scentsy.com/danacarey

When my cats were 17 years old and very sick with cancer, they both decided to start peeing around the house. I tried everything to get the smell out of the things they peed on: bleach, OxyClean, soaking in white vinegar, steam cleaning the carpet, but nothing really worked 100%. I am going through the same thing. I googled "cat pee out of carpet" like somebody else here suggested. There were a lot of ideas. I did buy Natures Miracle for cats and it did not work. Last night I tried a recipe that I found online and so far it seems to have worked.
(it was the one with peroxide, baking soda and dish soap). I wondered if the peroxide would ruin the carpet- but I did not care because as far as I was concerned, they are ruined already. But- the carpet looks the same. And I can't smell anything.

I have a 22 year old cat and tried a number of things. We tried Natures Miracle (pricey) and just plain peroxide. I would say go with good ol peroxide. It's cheap and does help with the odor. The next solution is my cat now wears a baby diaper. I felt bad at first, but she's used to it, and it really has solved our problem. Just cut a hole for the tail, and put masking tape around the hole so it doesn't leak. good luck D., I feel for you!

Go to planeturine.com and they have some great cleaners for both stain and odor for cat urine.

get a 2 litre bottle of club soda water. Drench the spots. You can even use a baking soda and water solution. These things neutralize the urine. good luck.

I had my dear kitty pee on two brand new pillow top mattresses.

I found good testimonies on this site http://www.planeturine.com and ordered their produts after Nature's Miracle did not work. (I have used it for years already and found it helpful but this was pretty bad.)
I did have to treat it twice. It not an easy clean up because of the powder. the stain is completely gone out of the mattress and the comforters etc. Smell is completely gone from comforters. I have say every so often there is a faint little smell of the urine. I hate that but don't have the money to go buy mattresses again!

. Mattresses are now covered with mattress protectors.

Call your vet and ask what they recommend/carry. I worked for a vet many years ago and we had this great stuff that worked very well. I forget what it's called, though.

White vinegar mixed with a little water is the best thing. The sooner you get it the better of course but will completely wipe out the smell of any urine stain. Used it a lot when my son was Potty training!

You may have tried already - but we use Nature's Miracle...soak the area and let it air dry - it takes a few days to dry and will smell during the process - but if it was soaked well - it should destroy the smell once dried.

Wow - big problem. I have three cats myself. I hope you don't mind that I tag along - I would really like to see what kind of responses you get!

Vinegar might help. It stinks at first but then all odors go away.

An enzyme cleaner is your only other hope. cat urine is pretty pervasive though. Good luck.

Plain white vinegar...better and much cheaper than any of the cleaners. If this doesn't work, you can have the carpet pad replaced. A carpet cleaning company can do this and it is not too expensive compared to replacing the carpet. They just pull the carpet back and remove and replace whatever size section of pad needs to be replaced

Have you tried Nature's Miracle - For Cats. I had 4 cats and it is the only thing that worked for me. You can get it at Petco or PetSmart. Get the big bottle because it is also great for carpet stains.

Nature's Miracle is really good. You might have to get it deep into the carpet to reach the pad, you can use a syringe to do that. Also vinegar helps neutralize it as well, I use that in the wash for cat beds and throw rugs and the like. Go and buy one of those black lights at the pet store and take a look at your carpet in the dark, take chalk and circle the spots or treat them right there. There might be spots you didn't know about or they were bigger than you first thought. You may have to treat spots more than once depending on how long it's been sitting there and how much urine is there.
You should also look into the reason your cats are peeing on the carpet and not in the box. Do they have enough cat boxes to go around? With 5 cats we used 3 extra large sized boxes in several areas of the house. Someone might have an illness-urinary tract infection perhaps. Do all your cats get along or at least tollerate each other? If there are territory issues going on or someone feels upset they will continue to pee and no amount of cleaning will help you. You might want to look into one of those plug in pheremone things and put it in the main areas someone is peeing in. Are all your cats spayed/neutered? Unaltered pets will pee more in undesirable places then altered pets. Sorry, a lot of questions I know. I have just learned over the years that treating the aftermath does nothing to solve the problem and it will just contiune until you find the cause and all you're doing is cleaning day after day, never getting ahead.

Greetings ~ if you've tried topical solutions, your problem may unfortunately be more then carpet deep. If it has gone into the under pad, the only way to solve the problem is new carpet and pad. And, if they have urinated near the wall and the urine has soaked into the carpet tack strip (wooden strip used to affix and stretch carpet) and that too will need to be replaced. We bought a house that had indoor cats and after ripping up the carpet and tack strip, still had to coat the cement slap with KILZ odor sealer.
