Casual Clothes for My Husband to Be at Our Wedding..?

We are getting married at the end of May, in an outdoor Cathedral in a local parks flower garden. Its beautiful there! I've decided on a very casual white summer dress, it is a very light, sheer cotton, the kind you find clothes made in India (it was made in India), its very pretty, but casual enough that I will wear it many times. (This was my goal, if I'd bought a fancy dress, I'd of cut it up after to make pretty cushions :) Anyways, I'm not sure what will look equally nice on my Husband to be, he likes the idea of nice shorts & a nice shirt... But after shopping around, Im not really seeing anything I like, and having a problem picking anything, we picked up some nice dressy shorts that are a light cream color, but I dont know, wont it clash with my white dress?? Also, I'd like him to wear a Boutonnière yet neither of us want to see him in a suit or tie, not his style. Then theres his feet LOL, he hates his toes showing, but I think sandals would be perfect. He has no fashion sense really, and on this Im stumped, he always looks nice, but its a special day & I want him to look and feel great. Its a very small, personal affair with witnesses & our daughters only, so we arent needing to match with anything but each other (or compliment, you know what I mean!)

Also, I need to find some sort of shawl or cover up, in case its chilly, Im thinking crotcheted because the dress has some crotcheted details. Where can I pick something like that up, is there somewhere online that has a large selection of scarves and shawls?

We need help planning this LOL

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

added in, He will wear sandals, but they have to cover his toes :) and have straps around the backs, no sort of flip flop. I like the idea of pants, but he likes shorts & has really cute legs so we want to go with the shorts :)

This is the link to the dress :)

I don't think he could go wrong with the previously suggested camel pants and white shirt, either a short sleeved, untucked kind of "Hawaiian shirt shaped" O. or a very light linen long sleeved with the sleeves rolled up. He could do camel shorts as well. If he does long pants, he could get a light colored linen sports jacket and put a Boutonnière in the lapel.

If he's not into sandals (my husband wouldn't wear them either, how about something like these:

My first thought was about a crocheted shawl... I'd definitely look online at etsy.com... soooo many handmade items on there, I'd be shocked if you couldn't find something, or find someone who could whip one up for you.

As for hubby, my personal preference would be for him to wear some nice, linen pants, which would lend well to wearing shoes, instead of sandals. I also like the idea of linen shorts with closed toed sandals. Then, I'd go with a short sleeved button up shirt, either white, or some color you both like.

I can't see shorts without sandals so what about lightweight pants? Linen would be casual enough, even with a jacket. I'm assuming he'll be wearing a jacket because of the boutonierre (sp?). Don't make him wear sandals if he's not comfortable with it.

Congratulations! I'm sure it will be a wonderful day, whatever he wears.

How about tan or khaki colored slacks with a white linen shirt? He could even find an indian style shirt to go with your dress. There are woven leather sandals that would cover his toes but be open around the sides and back.

Sometimes I use a pashmina or large rectangular scarf over my shoulders when it's cool out.

I would go with a nice pair of white linen pants and nice golf shirt or button shirt with a collar with some loafers or they make "sandals" with closed toes.

I'm picturing something like this.

If it's pants or shorts it depends on the guys comfort level.
I always find shawls and scarves at Ross.
Congrats and good luck!

Please have him wear light pants instead of shorts. Even if it's casual, pants look so so so much better. Linen pants, light shirt. Then if he'd rather wear shoes instead of sandals, he can find cotton sneakers (like converse or a cooler version of keds for men) and not have to worry about socks.

Happy marriage!

The dress will be beautiful on you!! Love the idea of camel/linen pants with a nice white shirt but if he's got shorts on the brain, he will be happy and comfortable.

Linen pants for him. Casual but comfy and good in warm weather.
(They will wrinkle but who cares?). And a nice short sleeve short untucked.
You can buy an inexpensive shawl for you at a local Walgreen's if you have one in your area. Or try a Wal-mart.

My husband is the same way - kinda clueless when it comes to clothes. We renewed our vows last summer and I had him wear a white polo shirt, khaki shorts and his vans type sneakers. I was in my wedding dress which was very simple but modified - I had it cut from long to short - and my kids were in matching clothes (son had same outfit as Dad, daughter had dress made out of the remainders of my wedding dress) and everyone looked great. Outdoor weddings/ceremonies can be much more casual without looking 'junky' - good luck!

What about a nice polo in the color of your flowers, with some cream pants and loafers instead of sandals? If he doesn't want them and doesn't like sandals, then look for sockless options.

I would maybe go with darker shorts, brown or black, and at least knee length, with a nice button up shirt. My cousin did a tropical them for his outdoor summer wedding and all the guys wore Hawaiian shirts :)

How beautiful!

And I should send my wedding dress to you so you could make me some couch cushions.

The first thing that came to mind for your husband to be is some khaki or linen pants, a nice shirt and some boat shoes. See the link below for the type of shoes I am referring to. This will hide his toes (better even if he has gorgeous feet, imo) and will still be perfectly casual.

I got married in San Louis Obispo I think it's called, in a little gazeebo by the ocean. (11 family members in attendance) I got my dress at Walmart of all places - a nice little white cotton dress like you mentioned. My husband and I both wore all white. My white dress and white sandals, his white cargo shorts (Macy's, Dillards, one of those) and white button up short sleeved shirt and white flip flops (Old Navy). I can email you a picture if you want one - just PM me with your email address. We did a lot of shopping to find exactly what he wanted. (We got married in August, so no had no worries about coolness. I actually got sunburned in the 1 hour we were hanging out there).

I think tan dressy shorts would look fine if your man finds a white shirt to go with it. As for sandals -- well he'll either have to get over it, or maybe he should do white/tan pants and wear some sort of brown/tan shoe/loafer. If you search for ideas for him, do a google search like "Hawaiian beach clothes" and a few ideas will come up.

Good luck. Not sure about the shawls. Sorry.

If he really wants to wear shorts, I would go with a darker khaki color. I like the way the "prep fit" mens shorts from AE look. He could pair that with a nice white polo or even a light colored polo. I don't think the flowers are going to look right on anything other than a jacket though...sorry.

If he wants sandals, go with something that's close toed. Even a pair of loafers or boat shoes would look ok with shorts.

Definitely look at etsy.com for shawls and cover ups.

Another thought: Google "beach weddings" or "casual wedding" and I bet you'd find a ton of ideas.

I like H&HMomma's hubby's attire. Switch the Van's out with a pair of Sperry's and he should be good to go. Or you could have the shirt be a button up, rolled up sleeve/cuffs kind of shirt if he prefers that over a polo.
