I am a die hard honda person and would usually never think of swaying from that unless it was to buy a Toyota which to me is "next best thing." My best friend just got a Kia SUV (I think the serento?) and I have to say the price tag looks pretty nice compared to the 33K Pilot we are wanting to buy next month. Anyone have any feedback on Kias, good or bad? I know the resale value on a honda will be cheaper but if you take into consideration how much cheaper the Kia is then that point is kind of mute. Thanks mamas!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks mamas, I had not done one ounce of research on them but now I am not even going to waste my time :) I didn't know the safety was so different, the choice of saving a little money vs my kids being safer is a no-brainer :)

SOS, do not buy KIA (this brand stands for Killed In Action)! My coworker has had two poc KIA's. The first one was a lemon, always in the shop, breaking down, etc. Due to Michigan’s lemon laws she was able to trade that in for another poc. This one was even worst. The 10 year 100,000 mile warranty was a joke, they did not honor and made so many excuses. When they did honor the warranty, the car had to be taken back for the same issues-most of the time, at the owners expense. The car is now 4 years old, paid in full, suppose to be under the warranty and the transmission needed to be replaced. They refused to replace the trans, so she had to take it to another vendor. $3,000.00 later, ordering parts from Korea, the car was still not working correctly-engine was going, and now is in the junk yard awaiting its deportation...

I wouldn't buy a KIA, you really do get what you pay for. Safety is also not near as good which is really important. Can you look at a used HONDA? or maybe check out some of the new Ford's (did I just say that??? Also a HUGE Honda fan - have had 3). But we did own a Ford 500 (now Taurus) for my husband's company car - VERY impressed. They have come a LONG way. The new explorers are very nice ! The Edge is also great! Good luck

A friend of mine has the Sorrento. It's nice-looking, but it feels "tin-y" when we're driving... like it's not "heavy enough". Does that make sense? I drive a Pilot and when this one "dies", I have no doubt that I would purchase another Pilot. This thing is a tank, drives well, sturdy, comfy, etc.

She likes the Kia and it was in her price range with enough storage for 3 kids and their "stuff". For me, just too "light" feeling. I know that sounds strange, but it simply feels "cheap" when you are riding in it. My FIL drives a Kia Sephia (sp?) and I feel the same way about that car vs. my MIL's Civic.

Not sure. My hubby is maybe a snob, lol, he says he'd never buy one. But they have come a LONG way from when they were first introduced over here. The Sorrento does look pretty nice. Although, the prices on the ones I have seen (not shopping them, just displayed in malls and such) are right up there with everything else. If I was going to spend $30k on a vehicle, it wouldn't be a Kia. JMO There are so many OTHER vehicles you could buy for that same money. Mazda CX-9 comes to mind...

I like them, but my insurance company does not. I always go by safety issues instead of pricetag when buying my vehicles.

KIA is a Chrysler Company, so is Lamborgani. I had a Plymouth Voyger years ago and my Dad had a Dodge Caravan, after all the trouble we had with Chryslers I will never own one again. I recently had to get a different car and would only look at Toyota or Ford. I have talked to a few used car dealers and they told me that Ford makes the best American car. I ended up with a Toyota Rav4 and love it.

We never have payments on our vehicles, so I would say whatever you can buy for cash is the way to go!
I agree with the advice to talk to a few mechanics. And compare warranties.
Good luck!
