I have to echo the cries to avoid Home Depot. We had an absolute flooring disaster with them a couple years ago, and, in the time since when we've recounted the story, it's almost always followed similiar tales of woe from others.
Need recommendations of who to use or avoid for getting new carpet replacement based on personal experience. Thank you for you information!! Any other advise appreciated as Ive never had carpet done before.

We have used Home Depot twice for carpet and it worked out fine. They usually run a special where installation is $100 or something like that. Check the fine print though.
We received the best deal and had great service from Lowes and Home Depot (2 different jobs). They each had been offering either free in home install or $100 entire house install deals. So I would give them a call.
I also recommend that if you have little ones that you request they lay out the carpet (unrolled) in their warehouse for at least a day prior to install. This will allow most of the chemical toxins to be aired out... seriously, I'm not an echo freak... I just have family in the construction business and know what I'm talking about.
Hi Jayne:
I would definitely not use Carpet Mills of America. I spent over $6,000 on new carpet and tile and had many, MANY complaints.
I'm pretty easy to please, but, they did not please me at all.
I had to call their customer service department several times (which was not located at the store that I purchased from). After not getting answers to my issues (I also had them install new tile where they left the sharp, cut edge completely exposed-in my 7 year old's bathroom no less), I asked to speak to someone in charge. I told him about the sharp edges of the tile and that the grout was crumbling. He told me that he didn't even know what that meant! Mind you, this was the person in charge. He didn't know what crumbling grout was.
I spent SIX months trying to get them to fix these problems. As I was coming to the end of my rope and was speaking to that same man in charge, I told him that if these issues weren't taken care of, I would call the Better Business Bureau. He told me if I called them that he wouldn't help me AT ALL! Wow.
Oh yeah, the carpet installer told me to go out and buy a threshold something or other to cover up the sharp tile. I told him I didn't want one and that I was told they could pull the carpet over the edges. (They waited to install the carpet for after they installed the tile so this wouldn't happen in the first place). When he came back and I didn't have the piece, he got quite upset and had an episode in my front yard! I was in my car, driving up, and even refused to go into my home with him there! His boss had to call him and tell him to leave!
Sorry this is so long, but, I don't think they deserve to have anyone's business. There are way too many companies out there who care about their customers.
Rodenbaugh's in Allen is very good and we have used them for other things besides flooring. They are not the cheapest....more middle of the road but they are very prompt, trustworthy and experienced. If you live in Allen, Frisco, McKinney or Plano I'd give them a call.
We used Flooring America off of I35 in Denton. They had some carpet in the back that wasn't out on display...I think they only had a limited amount left or something and we got a really good deal. Have only good things to say about them:) Good luck.

Rodenbaugh's in Allen has been in business since the 1960's and they put in our vinyl/wood/carpet flooring. Their customer service reputation is top notch. ###-###-####
Avoid Home Depot in Plano off 75 & Plano Pkwy!!! They Contract out to Cooper Flooring and we had awful experience!!
We have replaced carpet in 5 different houses in the last 5 years (real estate business). Avoid Home Depot. I've tried them twice thinking it was the easy way (you know, large, dependable chain), and both times was a disaster.
We went with CC Carpet the last times and were very happy.
Have you thought about just offering a carpet allowance so you don't have to bother with replacing? The new buyers can replace when the house is empty. We recently had ours cleaned by Dalworth and it improved it significantly for just showing the house.
Good luck!

This guy runs a carpet business on word-of-mouth advertising. He has been in business for over 20 years in various parts of the country. He is very reputable and I can give you the names of people who have used him and raved about his services. Great guy, and he sells cheaper because he doesn't carry the overhead.
Tell him S. Schierling sent you.
vote for a carpet allowance on your contract deal.
We did that 10 yrs ago when we sold 1 home we had built and moved to our current home we built.
The buyer used the allowance, bought what they wanted from whomever they wanted and had it done before move in when the house was empty.
Worked great in our case as well as the buyer!
