P.M.
Have never done the sleepover there, but I'd be first in line to volunteer if my daughter was going. I want to know her friends...
Anyone from Pittsburgh ever chaperone a sleepover at the Carnegie Science Center? My daughter's brownie troop is talking about going and looking for chaperones. I'd like to know what the heck I'd be getting myself into before I volunteer. Would I be better off having elective surgery?

You might be better off having elective surgery! LOL
I'd probably rather tough out the torture than wonder what's going on while I'm NOT there! haha
While I haven't been to the science center, I have spent the night with scouts at both the Philadelphia zoo and th Franklin institute science museum. Both were awesome experiences! There usually is a structured program, and they keep busy enough that most kids go right to sleep. Having a chance to check out a place like that "behind the scenes and after hours" is something my daughter still talks about more than 3 years later. (though i will admit, sleeping on the floor sucked!)
lol can't help you out but I would be leary too. Maybe call and ask the science center if the kids stay in a certain area or run the whole place, and what all is involved.
We've vacationed near Pittsburgh and went to the science center and it was great. My triplets were 5. It's a huge place on more than one level. As for chaperoning, I've not done that, but I'm sure it would be fun. Probably a lot of giggling and such. You may have a few who may be afraid or unsure at night so you'lll want to look out for those kids and make their time easier. There probably won't be a lot of sleeping going on, lol. Should be fun!

I've been to the Science Center many times but not overnight. If you go let us know how it was!
When our cub scouts have gone to museums they have a program to follow. THey are also only allowed in certain areas.
I would opt for the elective surgery. :o)
On behalf of volunteer organizers of kids events, please just do it. I have to admit - the 'I want my kid to have this great experience, but I want someone else to do the work' is an attitude that drives me crazy. It's a terrific opportunity for the kids! Some parents are not going to be able to chaperone for real reasons - a single mom with other kids at home, parents that have to work the day after the event, etc. If you can physically do it, please do and don't make the organizer beg.
