Measure his waist and leg length. You can find cargo pants at JCP, Kohl’s, Sears, and Target.
My son only likes to wear cargo pants and is now too tall for a boys size 18. He's too thin for men's pants. Even if he can cinch in the waist with a belt, the pants are too baggy everywhere else. Any ideas on where else I can find cargos for a tall thin teen?
Yes Littmab, my son is living in cargo shorts for the time being. But it's snowing up here and I think it's time for him to wear long pants since he walks part of the way to school!
Thank you for the suggestions, mamas. I'll try some of those stores/online stores and keep feeding him til he can fit into a regular mens pant.

Check Hollister,Tilly's, Eddie Bauer Urban Outfitters and Dickies. Also check www.lankylife.com/men and Slim Fit Cargo Pants for Men at
www.drjays.com/1/3/slim-fit-cargo-pants-men. If you don't have those stores in your neighborhood, check the on-line websites. I only have daughters, but they have the exact same problem. But the girls have "slim" sizes. I have seen a few boys with "slim" sizes. Does he like to wear shorts? They make tons of long "board" shorts that look very much like cargo pants except they hit at the knee or some even below the knee. I'm in So Cal so the weather is always fairly nice, so shorts work all year, but nowadays it seems most boys don't like to wear long pants. I have a nephew (25 years old) that doesn't even own a pair of pants, he only wears the longer cargo shorts. Sorry I'm not more help, but good luck. Let us know if you find any!
Oh boy I can empathize . . . my 15 year old is 6'3 and weighs around 142 pounds. We went through similar problems and I actually asked a question here. We got very lucky at JCPenny - a place I haven't shopped for years! He still needs a serious belt.
Good luck.
Military Surplus.
Probably Xshort xsmall
I wore Tall Small, or TallXsmall when I was active duty. Xsmall is a 22-28in waist (BDUs have cinching waists), and small is about 28-32.
It would help to know his waist size. My son at 21 is a 30-32, tall and skinny. Luckily he never cared what style jeans he wore as long as they covered his essentials.
I would check the online stores for the stores you normally shop in. I know when I worked for Penney's if the item was on sale at the store but unavailable we could look for the item in the online store and do a price change or get it from another store and sent to the customer's home without an extra charge. But some policies have changed.
Look in your local stores and ask them to do an online search for you and ask if they can do a price change to reflect any sale in the store.
Nope you pretty much have to cinch and deal until he get's into the more obvious size. I hate in between sizes.
