With the recent increase in gas prices once again are any of you Mama's thinking about trading in your SUV? We just bought a Tahoe last year and can sell it for what we owe, but I really don't want another car. I like to sit up high, but with the difference in gas mileage inbetwen my husbands car and my Tahoe is unreal.

Are you keeping yours?

What can I do next?

SUVs are very bad and outright dangerous for both the drivers and those on the road. Do some research on it. Personally, I see nothing positive about owning an SUV!

We have a minivan and an SUV and we're keeping ours because they are paid off. My husband drives almost 100 miles per day to and from work in the SUV. It stinks, but not as much as a car payment would. :-/

I drive a Pathfinder and will keep it until it dies. I love that thing! I drive 50 miles round trip for work/daycare and so the gas is expensive. But it keeps me and my family safe on the Hwy. and I have to have 4wd (PNW) and high ground clearance b/c I live in the sticks :)
My hubby has a 3/4 ton Dodge Diesel ~ talk about expensive!! We actually purchased him an older commuter car and that has helped. He drives it back and forth to work and uses his truck in snowy weather or when he transports the kiddos.

Drive what you are comfortable with. Yes the gas prices are getting high, but they will come down a bit soon. Is it possible for the person with the less amount of driving to drive the Tahoe and the other person drive the car?

Have you priced an Escape Hybrid? A hybrid SUV is a bit expensive, but gas mileage wise its the best of both worlds. A friend had a Toyota car hybrid and we all hated it, but the Escape Hybrid was better and roomier than the car.

Have you considered a Chevy Equinox? They have good gas mileage and are available in AWD and 4x4 verisons.

i own cars and they are paid off so have nothing to trade in. if you're able to sell it and then buy a car with what you got for it, then that's a good move, but going into debt obviously could defeat the purpose of getting rid of the suv.

i like suvs but just too cheap to buy one. we have the money in the bank, but really like the idea of saving just in case something happens to one of our jobs.

and i had to laugh about the lady saying nothing positive about suvs- to each their own, right? =)

The only reason Im keeping mine is because I will have 3 kids in car seats and they wouldnt all fit in our malibu. But, If I dont have to take the kids, I take our Malibu to save gas.

Yes, I love my Explorer, and with Michigan winter weather and driving a 4 x 4 is a must. I drive all highway, and stay at a steady speed, my SUV is very, very good on gas. It is Flex Fuel ready, but you have more maintenance expenses (more oil and filter changes.) Plus it is paid for!

We are not selling any of our cars. All 3 of them also require the Premium gas.

The market fluctuates. I would not go into debt so I could save gas money.. That kindof defeats the purpose.

I have a van and LOVE it. Never thought I'd say that... however, if your kids are older, I'd opt for a car (Accords get 34 mpg now) if you drive alot. My 2007 Odessey gets 23 mpg - not bad and with a 3 an 4 year old, we'll keep it a while as it's almost paid off...

Hello, if you love it, keep it! I love mine. Keep in mind the gas prices are going up and they'll come down. Then, what do you do? Buy the car you like. You may just have to adjust your errands. Living in a bigger city and a stay at home mom I always made a plan. It's the grocery store, cleaners, bank or whatever. Do those things in one day. Then, you know the days you're staying in for cleaning, play dates or just catching up. I guess the bottom line, just be smart in your usage. Good luck!

well i hate to say, but gas is not going to get affordable anytime soon. how long have we all been driving? and what does gas do. goes up, up, up, then down a little bit, then up, up, up some more. that "market" will do nothing but get harder and harder on the consumer. it's a fact, we may as well accept it. the days of the gas guzzling monsters is fading fast. that's why they are making more fuel efficient vehicles, and hybrids. if you have two kids, or one, why drive an suv? call me a hippie but i live in a SUV TOWN - it is the norm for sahm moms to run around all day in giant suv's, carrying one child. ridiculous. i have one child, don't plan on any more by choice, and both my husband and myself drive cars.
