Can't Shake the "Bitchiness" Today! Help!

So my period is due tomorrow, and I've been PMSing like crazy! I am annoying even myself. How do you shake it off?

I tried taking the kids out to go play someplace, but the baby was whiny and not doing well. Tried to come home and take naps but the older kids won't sleep & won't be quiet, and I am just snapping at everyone. My brain is telling me to relax, but those hormones are raging lunatics today.

What do you do when you can't stop your PMSing from getting out of control?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok, so my solution was - easy & early dinner for the kids. They ate dinner before 5, while I had a nice glass of red wine. Then we went outside and played in the pool and sprinkler for about an hour. Came in, bathed them, put them to sleep and have been MUCH happier ever since. Oh yes, and I had another glass of red wine too :) And I may or may not have taken 2 of my kids' Twixx bars as payment for the rotten day.

Thanks ladies, I am feeling MUCH better now! :)

I throw a tantrum.

Nope, not kidding.

When I'm starting to bug myself, I'll stomp around the house and make fun of my bad attitude, and then roll around on the floor like a dying fly, yelling "I'm so gruuuuuuuuuumpy, whine, whine, whine, POOOOR Ephie, poooor meeeeee". By then, I'm laughing too hard to be grumpy anymore.

That, or I sit outside by myself for a few minutes, take a shower, or get onto MP.

I just let the kids do what they'd like to do. Kick the older ones outside with the sprinkler, and put the baby down.

Eat some chocolate.

If you can get the baby down that would be great. Sometimes when I get like this I tell my kids, "Mommy is not mad at you, you arent doing anything wrong, but mommy i s having a bad day and I need a time out , so I need you guys to go play in your room or watch a movie while I go in my room and give myself a time out." Good Luck to you!

i'd snap too if mine wouldn't be quiet for "quiet time". that isn't unreasonable to expect! i'd lose it if the day they decided not to partake in 'quiet time' was the one day i was feeling this way...

i have days where i can just feel the bitchiness. it's like i am outside myself, watching myself take NO joy in anything, and almost deliberately looking at the worst in everything. and i can NOT STOP IT! it's frustrating!

luckily it normally just lasts a day or part of a day and i get over it. off to read your responses to see if there's a magic cure :) happily i don't get this most months...

I can't offer any sure fire solution, but wanted you to know you are NOT ALONE! I am exactly the same way when PMSing...I can't stand myself and feel so bad for my family! They can do nothing right and everyone I know annoys me! And my anxiety goes through the roof! I sit and worry that I should be worrying about something! LOL! For me, chocolate or a sweet yummy coffee from Starbucks always makes me happy.

And as someone said, make sure you fam knows you are NOT mad at them, just not having a good day. We are all allowed! Let me tell you, this awful heat is only making things WORSE! I think my husband even has PMS! haha!

To shake it - stop what you are doing. Stop everybody in thier tracks and call a family time out. Slow everybody down with a DIsney movie and lay on the bed or couch just being quiet watching the movie with the lights out. Hold the little one and smell baby hair. Rub on your kids and pet them. It calms them and you and if you're lucky, you may get to doze off.

When that doesn't work.....
3 little words strike fear in my household....LEAVE ME BE!
I tell my family - leave me be today. I am not mad at you, I'm just cranky. I haven't had my nap. Give mommy some space.

They know to make themselves scarce! Even dad. He'll take the kids to the park or out to ride bikes.

I apologize to my family in advance. After all these years, they're used to it. And now my oldest daughter also gets quite bitchy once a month. My poor husband, son and other daughter - on those days where my oldest and I overlap hormonally, it can get like World War 3 around here!

PMS.... ugh, right?
Maybe take some natural things... Chamomile Tea, Hylands Calms Forte- for adults.

Whole Foods, has really great customer service/sales clerks in the supplement section. Just tell them you want something for PMS. I have done that. They have a lot of knowledge.

Once you get your period, the PMS will ease. Until maybe you start to ovulate. I get irritable around then too. Sometimes.

Hormonal based irritability, is really no fun, and it is cyclical.
Every month.

They say having relations helps but I am right there with you and my stupid period migraine is starting to kick in so that is the last thing i want to do right now. I just want to go home and curl up and sleep. I wish there was an off and on switch for that. On when you want babies and off when you dont.

you aren't far from me in distance so you could probably blame some of it on the heat. try going for ice cream and cool off from your inside out....see if the older kids would sit and watch a movie for a short time. but i really think it's the heat more so than pms!!
