Can Anyone Tell Me About a FIBROID During Pregnancy??

I am pregnant with my 3rd. I am 8 weeks along and am having a lot of pain. Last week I had an ultrasound to find out what the pain was from. Turns out I had an ovarian cyst that took care of itself (have a history of those). As well as a fibroid!! I have never had a fibroid before. So of course, I came home and did all the research I could find on it only to become MORE stressed out. Has anyone had one or know anyone that had one during pregnancy. What should I do or not do?? My doctor was up front and honest with me about it but also takes the approach that I need to make the decisions for myself and my unborn child as to what I can and can not do. Any help or direction, or advice I will take. Thank you for your time!!

So What Happened?

Thank you for the information and stories. I will let you know how this progresses. I spoke with the nurse today due to pain, so we will see. One issue that they are concerned about it is that the fibroid is across from the baby on the inside of the uterus. They are watching to see if it will grow towards the baby and also if it will cover the cervex. Thanks again for taking the time. I am sorry to hear that others had to go through this too. I am just thankful you shared with me, it feels good to know I am not alone!!

I know a few things that may help that are all natural - drinkable aloe, which heals, and OPC3 which is an anti-inflammatory. If you would like more information, please let me know.

I have had a history of having Fibroids. I had 1 removed that was a size of a football when I was 19. When I was pregnant with my first, I had one, the doctor monitored it (but not very well we now know) I had a c-section after they removed my son they also removed a 5 pound tumor (no wonder people kept asking me if I was having twins)

With my second pregnancy I had another one at my first ultrasound but by the second ultrasound it had completly disapeared.

It is something I have to deal with now. Every year I get an ultrasound to see if there are any new growths.

Both my children were born healthy. you can email me ____@____.com anytime if u have any questions or just need to relieve some tension.

I had severe pain around my 4th-5th month in my first pregnancy. It was so bad I had to crouch over to walk and even then it hurt so bad. I went to the ER and they did an ultrasound to find what they thought was a fibroid. They put me on Tylenol 3 and I took that for a few days and felt better. Fibroids are non cancerous and they usually grow with pregnancy hormones but will go down after birth so they typically won't remove them. Mine grew to the size of a tangerine with my 1st and 5x5 with my 2nd pregnancy. I had no issues with pain with my second pregnancy. It shouldn't affect a pregnancy unless it's so big that it presses on the uterus and the baby may not have room to turn into a head down or there may be other issues depending on where the fibroid is located. Maybe if it's inside the uterus you may have issues with implantation or something. Mine is on the outside of the uterus so it wasn't a big deal. I sure hope my experience helps you out. If you're in pain then pain management is the only thing I think they'll do.

I have had a very similar experienc to Patti's and although the pain was there, it lasted for about 1-2 weeks then disapeared after being prescribed medication (that was obviously safe for the baby). But throughout the rest of my pregnancy, the fibroid was continuously monitored to make sure it wouldn't interfere with the baby and delivery. Thankfully, all went well and had no symptoms with my second pregnancy.
